To be worried about what the Labour government will do next?

1000 replies

Scenicgirl · 17/12/2024 22:46

Let's be honest, Labour has been a massive disappointment for this country, pissing off the pensioners with taking away the WFA, the farmers, NI changes which impact employers, immigration etc and today refusing compensation to the WASPI women after they ridiculed the Conservatives when they didn't commit to a solution. Don't we deserve better than this constant shit show of lies and deceptions which were clearly spouted out purely to gain power?
For the 1st time in my life, I worry about where we are heading.

Soarksflied and your point is?

Yes they are private companies AND?

My point is I'm simply fucked off with them - emotional!

TofuTart · 18/12/2024 22:50

SpunkyCritic · 18/12/2024 22:42

And now backtracking on protecting single spaces as predicted.
We need you, Kemi!

We bloody don't.
Thank feck she and her Gov are out.

They want us to save for retirement yet they now steal it through inheritance tax.

How does that work? You can’t be alive and retired and dead simultaneously. And there are no pockets in shrouds.

Pensions being taxed!

Abhannmor · 18/12/2024 22:52

The first time in your life you are worried? Where have you been during 14 years of Tory Austerity, incompetence and corruption?

To say nothing of the utter shit show which is Brexit. There's no magic solution to all that. It will take time and patience. Not some crazed lurch to the even further Right.

Patience - how much time have you left?

Pensions being taxed!

You mean pensions being liable for a tax that’s only applicable after you’re dead? There’s an easy way round that - spend it during the retirement you saved it for.

HopelesslyOptimistic · 18/12/2024 22:57

Blossomtoes - I don't want to spent it, I want to transfer MY WEALTH how I see fit.

Life long Labour supporter/voter but will never vote for them again.
A U turn here, a U turn there...all a load of hypocrites and every bit as crap and full of false promises as the Tories.

So who then?

Thank feck she and her Gov are out.

She's not perfect by any means, but at least she knows what a woman is, the importance of protecting single sex spaces and the dangers gender ideology presents to kids.

Halfemptyhalfling · 18/12/2024 23:00

I'm more worried about Elon musk giving £1 million to farage and reform

How will policies from Labour shrinking the private sector help?

It's the first time this asset has been taxed and this is only since 2015 when pensions were freed up. Before then you had to buy annuities and couldn't bequeath them anyway

Precisely. I can’t get exercised about a tax that’s only applicable after I’m dead. And if our kids aren’t happy with a share of a tax free windfall of £1 million, our parenting is really fucked up.

Yes, that's much more worrying I agree.

FloralGums · 18/12/2024 23:06

No, not worried. They are trying to sort out the drastic underfunding of NHS, education and care services that the Tories virtually destroyed.
A minority in this country can afford to use private medical, education and care, but the vast, vast majority use state provision and have seen the Tories run them to the ground.
It takes courage to try and sort out the mess the Tories left. Labour have been brilliant trying to fix things. I’m really positive about what they are doing.

FloralGums · 18/12/2024 23:08

db11 · 18/12/2024 22:12

Way too early to judge. They are clearing up after the messiest children’s party you can imagine. It will take years.

This.

Aduvetday · 18/12/2024 06:15

People should be worried. The FTSE is shrinking because companies are pulling out and re registering in New York. People hate business but that’s what is paying for these big ideas. Like it or not.

I said long ago, my team was thinking of relocating to NYC and it got dismissed. Or fuck off then. These are big, global, financial companies. They are pulling out of the city and going. The UK is not attractive to invest. The magic money tree is upping roots.

The London stock market has shrunk at its fastest pace in over a decade as companies are pulling ore “fucking off and leaving” taking their investment and tax with them. Slow hand clap 👏🏻

Yeah. BREXIT.

HopelesslyOptimistic · 18/12/2024 23:14

What I said makes perfect sense. Your pension now gets taxed through inheritance tax. Very simple! If your happy for that to happen when your 10 feet under, great, I'm not. You stick with your great give away parenting and I'll stick with mine - protecting my hard earned money to pass onto my kids.

You said we should just 'let the markets do their thing'. And then said you were fed up with polluting water companies. I just wanted to point out that the problem with the water companies is an example of markets 'doing their thing'. They are making huge profits for their shareholders and are not held accountable for pouring sewage in the sea. Surely this is one area where we need more government intervention not less

HopelesslyOptimistic · 18/12/2024 23:27

Yawn 🥱

Jellycatspyjamas · 18/12/2024 23:28

Yes they are private companies AND?
They're a stellar example of what happens when you let the market do its thing with essential services.

Huonneyywisshful · 19/12/2024 02:07

So they’ve pissed off WASPI women now, just to add to the list. Hypocrisy and betrayal are the words that come to mind, after Labour gave full support to these women, when they were in opposition.
