I have some Christmas presents needing to be wrapped. My DH has not wrapped presents before. I just heard him in the bedroom with the wrapping paper and tape.

Hes wrapped my mums Christmas present so badly I’ve I’ve had to rip the paper off and throw it away. I’m so annoyed as there wasn’t much Christmas wrapping paper left and I was planning on wrapping them neatly.

Just had to have a vent! He’s now annoyed at my becuase I got annoyed at him!

Some people are awful at wrapping presents. Does it matter really anyway?

Allfur · 17/12/2024 21:41

Hope he puts more effort into his other endeavours, being so slapdash isn't the greastest of qualities

Greatpot · 17/12/2024 21:42

Nah, I am of the view that as long as it is covered, the rest is a bonus. He tried to help you, now you don't like his version of help.

Snap. Was it covered? Then it is fine. Why waste the paper?

Sparxdislike · 17/12/2024 21:42

I hate wrapping and it takes foreverrrrr. Maybe he just rushed through it. I do it and make it look nice but wish I click my fingers and it was done.

I wouldn't get annoyed over it though and unless you could see the present wouldn't have re wrapped. Probably would have mentioned my husband wrapped it though (tbf my husband puts bows and ribbons on my presents. I do all the wrapping otherwise).

Mooshroo · 17/12/2024 21:43

Living like this must be so draining.

There is more to life than perfectly wrapped presents

Eyresandgraces · 17/12/2024 21:44

I make my wrapping paper into bags, put in item, turn over top and tape.
Easy.

reetaskeeta · 17/12/2024 21:45

My dh has always bought gift wrapped presents or a gift bag. He wrapped my Christmas pressies in front of me for the first time in his life and he didn't do too badly. He even made bows with some pretty ribbons! I tried to intervene and make it look better but he was having none of it 😂

lifebyfaith · 17/12/2024 21:45

I'm awful at wrapping. I'm thanking my lucky stars tonight that I'm single and no one will criticise my efforts!

XenoBitch · 17/12/2024 21:45

I do a lot of crafts, and I am good at them. But wrapping presents.... if someone held a gun to my head and told me to wrap a present that had to look good... then I would be dead.

Are there any pets in the family that you get gifts for? Shit wrapping is perfect for them if the pets do the unwrapping (all our family dogs have opened their own presents).

canyouletthedogoutplease · 17/12/2024 21:49

Has he never bought a present and wrapped it? How did he get to this point without ever wrapping a present? How can this be so?

Regardless, he wrapped a present, it was your choice to remove the paper and do it again. I'd have left it on to be honest, but I've got enough to do this week without going round after grown men undoing their handiwork.

Onlyvisiting · 17/12/2024 21:53

Define bad? I'm shit at wrapping, if the present is completely concealed by paper and there isn't anything ridiculous like going completely around the outside several times with the tape then I suspect what you actually mean is that he didn't wrap to your standards.

Ooooh. I need a link to how to do this!!!
How much does it look like a festive McDonald's??

Differentstarts · 17/12/2024 21:55

Was it badly wrapped or do you have high standards

PietariKontio · 17/12/2024 21:58

My son has dyspraxia and just can’t wrap presents to save his life, he’ll spend ages on them but it never works out.
Thing is, although he beats himself up about it, we have never made a single negative comment, because 1) he tried, 2) it’s not his job, there’s not marks in life for doing stuff, Xmas isn’t a fucking competition, and 3) I could give a fuck what a present looks like before I tear it apart, or how much it cost, but that he thought of us and tried to make others happy.
btw he’s in his twenties now, still no better, I still have no shits to give

Rowena191 · 17/12/2024 22:00

Present bags! Save and use again next year.

WalterdelaMare · 17/12/2024 22:01

What kind of grown-arse man can’t wrap a bloody present? What does he do with your presents, OP?

SchoolDilemma17 · 17/12/2024 22:02

MerryChristmasYaFilthyBrusselSprout · 17/12/2024 21:24

He’s done that so he doesn’t ever have to do it again. I don’t believe a grown man can’t wrap a present.

Yep this.

I would have just left them badly wrapped .. it’s funny

Exactly what I was going to say. My family would have just laughed. That's a giggle and a fun memory ruined!

Melodyfair · 17/12/2024 22:09

Just because one person thinks the other did a job badly it doesn’t automatically mean weaponised incompetence ffs. I’m an arty type, creative and careful, but presents I wrap look like they’ve been through a spin dryer, I even used decorators masking tape as I ran out of cellotape this year, they look terrible 😂

Love51 · 17/12/2024 22:13

I wouldn't get a beginner wrapper to wrap stuff going outside of the household if I was fussy about wrapping or felt we might be judged. They could wrap for the immediate household until the became competent, or do something more aligned to their skill set.

Haha, are you me? I used masking tape on a hastily wrapped gift today!

Agree...absolutely 😊

MamaAndTheSofa · 17/12/2024 22:38

It depends what you mean by "badly wrapped". My DH has in the past handed me presents where the paper didn't cover the item inside, or where it just fell off as soon as he let go of it, and to be honest I found that really irritating because it's not that hard to get the thing covered in paper and to attach the part properly - it just felt really careless. He also writes tags that literally no one else can read. Drives me mad that he can't just do it passably at least!

But if it's just that it's not as neat as you would have done it, then it's maybe a bit unreasonable to be angry.

TheThreeCheesesOfTheApocalypse44 · 17/12/2024 22:48

My OH used to use tinfoil 🤣🤣🤣

Bluescissorsbluepen · 17/12/2024 22:52

I love wrapping presents and am good at it, I actively hover at peoples houses in December desperate to be asked to wrap. My ultimate dream is to make my own paper to use to wrap.
al that being said, I’ve never been remotely offended by a poorly wrapped present. Some can sing, some can dance I can wrap.
