Congratulations—you won. You harassed her until she left. However, you’re clearly struggling to come to terms with the fact that yes, she will continue to live a public life in the US, and yes, that may include sending out Christmas cards from her foundation. Yeah, the more you read these threads you realise that they did the best thing ever by getting out of the UK and away (as well as they could, anyway) from the toxic press and negativity, and not showing their kids faces in any photos that do get out.

I thought the broadsheets were very welcoming to her. The likes of the Daily Mail had headlines about her being from somewhere called Compton, and I gather that that was a racially loaded thing to say, but the rational press was very positive about her, I thought. I don't know why Meghan responded to the gutter press so badly, America has the gutter press too, and I thought everyone knows not to take them seriously. What matters is what the broadsheets say, and they were fine about her.

Yes the payment was to avoid going to court. After the disastrous TV interview where Andrew obviously lied through his teeth, the court said the TV interview could be used as evidence in court. If Virginia had won her court case, which was looking likely, Andrew would have been branded a rapist of a sex trafficked girl. It was a civil court, but a verdict finding the allegations against Andrew true, would have led to public pressure for him to be tried in a criminal court. He had to settle.
