To wonder why the school has to be shut for local elections when we have a perfectly good community centre with lots of space available in it

....not to mention several church halls nearby unused during the day.

YANBU - would annoy me too!

I think it's all about money. Schools get paid for being polling stations, I think

Dynamicnanny · 01/05/2008 11:30

Our school is open - they just use a demountable in the playground for voting

RustyBear · 01/05/2008 11:31

Because the council has to pay to use church halls, but doesn't for schools - they just make the school have a training day, even though it's an inconvenient time (just before SATS)

YANBU, we have a community centre opposite where the elections are being held in. Thankfully,
I think If it were me i would have to ring the Town Hall and question why they felt the need to close a school when there are perfectly good facilities nearby that can be used.
Especially after the strike last week and the Bank Holiday on Monday you'd think they'd try to avoid shutting a school unnesacerilly (cant spelll sorry)

DS2's school is closed today. It is nice: he just ran into my workroom, gave me a kiss and cuddle, and ran out again.

Aren't elections required to be held in state-owned buildings? They own the schools but not always community centres/halls.

So why don't they use libraries? Perhaps because lots have been shut down?

TsarChasm · 01/05/2008 14:53

Ooh yes, good point re library; we have one of those too.

It just seems we haven't had a full week at school for weeks now...

I expect there's a reason for it
