So I have a hobby , collecting dolls and making things for them I am good at it but generally don’t sell stuff because I can’t be bothered with the hassle .

Recently because I wanted to buy a new doll , I sold some stuff I had to do so - all good .

Then someone who I don’t really know asked me to make her an item. I relented (with xmas around the corner) then she asked about other things I was considering selling and knocked me down quite a bit on some of the prices .

I made the thing and was ready to send everything . it was at this point she gave me a sob story and said she only wanted the heavily discounted items and thing I had made. I had a gone to a fair bit of trouble by this point , answering questions and taking photos .

The sob story changed a bit when she realised I was annoyed . At this point I decided I couldn’t be assed with a time waster and blocked her . I am left with the thing I made which I probably can’t sell on as it was personalised .

DH thinks I should have continued with the partial sale .

Nah your right, sounds like a chancer.

RegulatorsMountUp · 16/12/2024 12:59

Since its personalised I would have stuck to my guns and said the price is X and that's final. She probably would have relented. Then once she'd paid and you'd sent it I'd block the cheeky bitch. There's always loads of personalised stuff for sale on vinted and ebay so still try and sell it - unless it's a very very unusual name.

No I don't think you should. People like that go through life behaving like twats because no one ever says no to them. Being stoic and carrying on with the sale would mean she'd learn she can get stuff out of you and she'd just target you again. She's a CF of the highest order.

Wakeywake · 16/12/2024 13:01

I'd try to sell it anyway, even if it's personalised. Or can you de-personalize it? (unpick embroidery if that's the kind of thing you do)

Stick to your guns. She’s a chancer. She probably wants it for Christmas, so she may relent and pay you the full amount.

if she couldn't afford it, she should have said when you first gave her the quite.

thats an idea . It’s appliquéd rather than embroidered but that might work .
Previous PP who said she would target me in the future is spot on I think .

You are all making me feel better .
