Ds has a ps4 and wants to upgrade to ps5.

I looked last week and thought the disc consoles (not digital) were £399.

Can’t find them anywhere now but there are are loads of others £460 ish plus dearer ones.

How come they e have suddenly increased so much in price and what is the best value one to buy?

Ds has ps4 games he wants to play on it.

Not sure. We are avoiding upgrading our ds's PS4 until they no longer make the games he likes for PS4, specifically FC football, and until the PS5 comes down in price.

I know what you mean, I did ask him what the point of upgrading is, as I don’t really understand the difference.

It's like phones. They add a few tweaked specifications and slap an overly expensive cost on it. What games does he play?

FIFA/football, Fortnite mainly

They were cheaper because of the Black Friday sales.

PS5 disc version (slim) seems to be the best if you have PS4 games that you want to continue using.

I can't see the point either, but there you go 🤷‍♀️

The difference is that the PS5 is an order of magnitude more powerful, meaning load times are reduced, graphics are of higher fidelity and the frame rate (how 'fast' things move) is greatly improved.

The PS4 is dead tech at this point.

Get the disc version, especially if you have a PS4 as you can play the PS4 games on the ps5.

I upgraded from the PS5 to the pro last month, it's great but honestly not worth £700. I'd stick with the PS5.

A lot of PS4 games are now playable on the 5 and pro.

Don't waste your money on the digital version - you want discs so that you can get cheap second hand games.

Ouch, yeah the current price is their regular price, they were cheaper due to black friday.
As a gamer myself i can say theres a massive difference between ps4 and ps5 technologically. Better graphics, faster loading, smoother gameplay etc.
Not to mention going forwards some games will be released only on the 5, as 4 is old generation and will be phased out.
I own the regular digital ps5, got enough space that i don't need a slim, and it's not worth £700 to upgrade to a pro, especially when you then have to buy the disc drive separate.
I would have preferred the disc version, but i got mine way back near release when they were like gold dust to get hold of, many very early mornings in hours long queues.
