Mick Jagger: just shouts tunelessly. He can’t sing at all.

Generally a lot of men in bands, like the Gallagher brothers, Alex Turner, and the singers in the Kinks.

Chris Martin - he’s just an insipid whiner. There was an advert with a woman with a good voice singing while driving a big lorry. I thought “that’s a nice song” and realised that it was actually Yellow by Coldplay. I never even realised it was a decent song because he just sounds so horrendous.

Generally women are held to a much higher vocal standard, and are only ever considered respectable artists if they are also good singers. Men who can’t sing get away with it. But ti balance it here are two women:

Geri Halliwell: Posh gets shit on for her bad singing but at least she had a pleasant enough tone. Geri is far worse - flat as a pancake.

Taylor Swift: such a weak voice. Sounds like mediocre karaoke.

There’s a singer in a Christmas advert and she is quite clearly putting a voice on. I don’t know the advert. It’s something like ‘everyone can be Christmas’ or something like that. It’s a style of singing popular with a lot of ladies and it’s put in and I hate.

To those saying Taylor Swift, I would have agreed with you before I saw her in concert, but she is one talented lady with a good voice.

Ariana Grande has decent range but the MUMBLING. I can understand about one word in five of what she sings.

Sia. AWFUL voice. So irritating. And I can't understand half of what she says.

Michael Jackson. Great showman, fantastic dancer, mediocre singer.

Agree about the wispy, breathy, croaky, vocal-fry, indie-singer, type singing. Fucking awful.

Celeste is one example. Her 'singing' makes my ears bleed! 😖

Agree. MJ was an amazing singer. So is Taylor Swift. People are just taking the piss saying these 2 can't sing!

I agree. Another example - I think Adele has a fantastic voice, but mumsnet doesn't like her.

Just say that someone isn't your cup of tea, but don't knock the obvious talent.

There is a singing teacher near me who seems to teach indie girl. I can’t get more than 10 seconds into the videos she posts on socials.

Lily Allen. Very very weak. I’m not the biggest fan of the warblers either (Christina Augelira especially). Give me an Alison Moyet, Brody Dalle or Alison Mosshart any day.

Madonna's voice is horrible.

I think Kylie can sing perfectly well.

Omg yes, her song Snowman came on when I was listening to a Christmas playlist and it was so hard to make out what the fuck the lyrics were. She sounded drunk 🥴

Jimmy Nail. I like a lot of his stuff in a kind of ironic way but he definitely got lucky with the recording contract.

You see, I disagree, I really dislike Adele's voice, to me, there's nothing good about it, she's just a belter.

Mariah Carey, I will concede, the woman has pipes. The emotional range of a sprout though. It hurts me to listen to her.
