Been having pressure and pain in my head for the last two weeks or so. GP said migraine and gave me amitriptyline and a triptin.

They haven't really been helping so I went back today and was told to continue taking them.

I'm currently experiencing a weird sensation over my the center of my scalp and pressure in my head again. I'm really scared and not sure what to do because I'd have to ring my sister to drive me. Have tried 111 who said they'd get a GP to ring me back but I'm terrified I'm going to fall asleep and not wake up.

If you are alone, ring your sister to come and be with you until the GP calls back. Then she is already there if you need to be driven. That is, if no one else is with you now?

Yes I'm alone.

I don't want to scare her unnecessarily - I'm feeling extremely anxious at the moment!

Have you had the weird flu / cold? Just asking because I feel similarly worried about symptoms like the ones you describe atm and I'm still struggling with the flu.

lemmein · 15/12/2024 02:59

If I was your sister I would want you to ring me.

Is your vision affected?

EmptyTheFrickingBins · 15/12/2024 03:02

No my vision isn't affected and no flu.

Just spoken the a nurse and she's happy for me to stay at home. I'm going to put an audio book on and try to get some rest.

It could be anxiety causing either some or all of your symptoms. You're currently in the worst stretch of the night where your mind can run away with itself and everything feels worse than it really is (physically and/or emotionally). When I start spiralling at this time of night, I find it helps to label it: "it's just The Middle Of The Night" and find distraction, which sounds like you're doing... I hope you're able to sleep soon.

P.s. edited to add that I don't want to dismiss what you're experiencing, which is obviously very real, but if the nurse is happy for you to remain at home I'd see that as reassuring.

EmptyTheFrickingBins · 15/12/2024 03:46

I have been telling myself that! Thank you!

I hope you can get some sleep.

if you were my sister I'd hope you would ring, I know how scary it is on your own & worse still when you have children.

Are you taking the triptan daily / regularly? It sounds like it from what you wrote. As far as I know, triptans are for occasional, not regular use (ie treating a migraine, not preventing one). I take sumatriptan, which should only be taken a few days a month ( I think it’s 10 days max). Taking too much can cause rebound headaches and migraines.

It’s a powerful med and when I take it, it gives me a really weird feeling of pressure and tightness in the head and tingling sometimes. It’s a horrible side effect but better than the horrific pain of a migraine. Could it be that side effect you’re experiencing?

Hope you feel better soon!

Yes - this is what I was going to say. Sumatriptan gives you that exact feeling OP, it’s unpleasant but a common side effect.

I wish it was that but I haven't had any today ☹️

“Weird sensation in my scalp” is hardly an emergency? 111 don’t think so either?

Except a medical professional has spoken to the OP and told her to stay home….

The idiots are the people who don’t read the thread properly.

Only you know your body - if you’re scared, so what makes you feel safe.

EmptyTheFrickingBins · 15/12/2024 10:24

Survived the night! I think I was just in panic mode tbh and it was making everything worse!
