To have wanted to see what I was buying?

Small box of wooden cat magnets. £8.
I thought they might be nice for my cat-loving sister. The box was sealed at both ends with a clear, circular sticker. I understand why this is so.
I took it to the cashier and asked if I could see the magnets before deciding whether to buy them or not.
He took the box, told me it was sealed and so no I couldn't.

So I didn't buy them.

AIBU to have wanted to see them?

Was there no picture on the box?

pumpkinpillow · 14/12/2024 19:12

Oh yes, there was a picture (very small though). When I say see I mean see in real life; to hold them and see the quality (thickness of the wood, how well painted).

YANBU to want to see them.
YABU to expect a shop worker to break the seal on a new pack.

DreamW3aver · 14/12/2024 19:16

Tricky one as you do want to be able to see them but equally who would buy an already opened box of you decided they weren't for you?

The shop is choosing to lose the sale, that's their perogative

stargazerlil · 14/12/2024 20:24

Yeah they should have an open one on display.

This.

Personally, like you, I like to be able to see things in real life and see what they feel like which is why I don't like on-line shopping BUT YWBU to expect the shop assistant to be able to get them out for you when it is a sealed box.

Eenameenadeeka · 14/12/2024 20:53

If you opened them and then didn't want them, someone else wouldnt want them. And most people wouldn't want an unsealed pack as a gift either.

Cherrysoup · 14/12/2024 20:54

Totally unreasonable, do you do the same in food shops?!

YourTurnForTheTree · 14/12/2024 20:56

I would have just googled the item and hoped to find a photo of the contents online.

I still wouldn't have been able to feel them though or see how well they were made.

Yes, I open tins, cartons of milk, bars of chocolate..because that's exactly the same as buying something unknown that I don't know the quality of.....

I was thinking that they might be happy and able to peel the little clear sticker off carefully from the bottom of the pack and if the sticker got a bit wrinkly, pop a bit of tape on the box. It wouldn't change the magnets inside at all, but it's a gamble if that would work, I know that.

Yes. They are obviously doing OK.

I guess reviews might give you some idea. Not the same I know.
