Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Evanna Lynch and most of the child actors in the HP films. Awful. Only got the parts because they were the right age and looked like the characters. Even Alan Rickman wasn't great in the films and he's usually good. It's like none of them could cope with the pressure and expectation. Although I actually think Emma Watson is ok

I hope the new series they are doing picks actors that can actually play the parts. They can always dye hair etc

cadburyegg · 15/12/2024 00:18

Oh another one. Amanda Seyfried

Idris really is unidimensional. Pretty boy vapid
Tilda by Christ she’s so hammmy

Do you think she was always hammy?

I feel like she, like David Tennant, weren't always that way. It's happened as they got older.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 15/12/2024 00:21

What?! I absolutely love Adeel Aktar. He was so good in Sherwood.

I also like The Rock and Hugh Grant. I always find that audiobook recordings sort the acting wheat from the chaff, and Hugh did a brilliant one.

Bonnie Wright... nailed it. All the HP actors were awful, but she was the pits. 'Leave him aLONE.'

Martin Freeman is great in Fargo and Sherlock, I'm shocked anyone thinks he's not good

I thought he was wonderful in Fargo. I was prepared to hate the series as Fargo is my favourite film, but I ended up loving it.

Zone2NorthLondon · 15/12/2024 00:23

No, I think she’s became increasingly luvvy affected and full jambon

Famousinlove · 15/12/2024 00:23

Chris Pratt. His worst performance is when he plays Anne Hathaway's fiance in Bride Wars

RafaFan · 15/12/2024 00:29

Jc2001 · 14/12/2024 21:46

Yeah. Seems weird to call her out as a bad actress when EE is the only things she's ever been in .

I remember seeing Gillian Taylforth as a police officer in something years ago...can't remember what it was.

SeanMean · 15/12/2024 00:34

Gerard Butler
Gal Gadot

I agree with this. Tilda Swinton is one of those actors who is so self regarding and up herself. It didn't take long for this to happen to her. I remember seeing her on stage when she was first starting out and she got so much acclaim from such a young age, which started her decline as a performer.

Warren Clark; poor chap never did get a director that managed him properly. Always over the top and that smirk as in Dalziel and Pascoe. A real loss.

Did you ever see him in In the Red or Sleepers? They were great series and I thought he was really good in Sleepers (as a KGB agent who'd gone completely native and really didn't want to go back to Moscow).

Owl55 · 15/12/2024 00:47

Kiera Knightley is brilliant in Black Doves on Netflix xx

user243245346 · 15/12/2024 00:47

David Tennant. He is incredibly stage school and overacts in everything like an annoying kid at theatre group

TempestTost · 15/12/2024 00:49

Neveranynamesleft · 14/12/2024 23:32

Another vote for Keira Knightley. Wooden as anything, bloody awful in Love Actually.

Edited

I hate to judge her for that. She was very young, probably too young for that part.

cidiyic · 15/12/2024 00:50

Daniel Mays who seems to be in everything but is terrible, and his generational predecessor
James Nesbitt, more of the same.
Richard E Grant - his Instagram shows his total lack of range - he can't even fake a smile reaching his eyes.
James Corden - google tells you all you need to know

and that bloke (don't know his name) who looks like a squashed ferret who has been in Hollyoaks for years - how he got a job acting at all, let alone held on to his Hollyoaks gig for so many year no idea.

There are so many people in this class its shocking but the problem with acting is that success is about luck - you luck in with a successful producer/director/casting director who likes you and you are away.

Wasn't that her sister? Or am I getting this mixed up with real life? I vaguely recall that her sister left acting to become a police officer - or traffic warden.

Ok, yes.

So I have a theory about this. I think it's the same as JK Rowling.

JKR wrote a pretty good kid's book which was a normal length and well edited, and had a smashing success. The most successful children's writer of all time and publishing cash cow.

So - editors were scared of her and her books, while remaining ok, became bloated and not nearly as tight as they could have been.

Tilda and David gained reputations as great authentic actors, and as actors tend to do, believed their own hype which meant they no longer self-censored. And directors became unwilling to hold them back and tell them to cut out the ham.

PickledPony · 15/12/2024 01:02

Agree with Olivia Colman, she is awful so why so sought after? I remember reading an interview with her when she was doing The Crown, admitting that she hadn’t put any effort into portraying the Queens mannerism/accent. That was obvious to anyone watching. Her performance was woeful after seeing how brilliant Claire Foy was. She should never play anyone that is known (in living memory) to anyone again. She is just herself in everything.

I like most (not all) the actors mentioned so far ... although ... I'm notorious for not recognising actors, so the very fact I know who this lot are suggests they are, in fact, not good actors!

That said, I recognise Leonardo DC because I think he's great. And Brad Pitt because I mix him up with Leo DC 😂

My nomination for the Block of Wood Award is Bill Nighy. Same person every single time, and not an interesting or charismatic person at that.

Daniel Craig

He's the best Bond because he's the only one who could actually!

Nic Cage i really struggle with. He comes across really wooden.

This but raising Arizona one of my favourite movies ever

Madonna seems to have given up on acting. Quite rightly so as she was terrible.

She was great in Desperately Seeking Susan! But she was just really playing herself, so...

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 15/12/2024 01:14

Daniel Craig’s accent in Munich was the best part of the film, if only because it kept me entertained trying to work out where the fuck he was supposed to be from.
