Good - John Simms, Shaun Hughes, John Thaw, Roger Allum

Isatis · 14/12/2024 22:56

Daisy Badger. Archers listeners will know exactly why.

olivia coleman

She is superb, has an oscar and 2 additional nominations.

Rattatoille · 14/12/2024 22:58

Alan Rickman, same boring monotone voice in everything, playing himself.
Nicola Walker, over exposed and looks weary and bored.

Oscars aren’t measure of talent.

I would like you to be my new best friend @Bananadana!

I just spat my wine out all over my laptop!

THANK YOU for making me laugh, I really needed that ... and you are not incorrect re Tom Hanks!

And THANK YOU for this thread @WokeKarenHereAskMeAboutStuff!

Illinoise · 14/12/2024 22:30

I agree, she was also brilliant as the evil step mother in flea bag! Brilliant character and she played it superbly.

Yep, that sickly-sweet, patronising, manipulative, horrible woman. Not an easy part to pull off, I would have thought.

Rhinohides · 14/12/2024 23:04

Well, I LOVE Rupert Everett but would be the first to say his acting reduces me to tears- of laughter. He’s the same in EVERYTHING which makes me think he leans into his personality… but what a personality. He doesn’t steal every scene he’s in, it’s handed him on a plate- oozes charisma and charm.
Dame Judi Dench for me is another one whi is the same in every film she’s in. Sane fiction, delivery and facial expressions- it lack there of. But tonnes of charisma.
Sairosie Ronan on the other hand I don’t think can act and as others have said, leaves me cold

William Roache aka Ken Barlow
Sophie Okonedo

KTheGrey · 14/12/2024 20:15

Me too, but Portman can act and has a nice speaking voice, so you know the difference when the dialogue starts.

OO, get thee claws back in ! I just gulped some tea and it came down my
nose when I read this ! However you are correct Grin

Sunhatweather · 14/12/2024 23:09

I know she’s been mentioned a lot, but I’ve also never been able to understand how or why Keira Knightly continues to be given roles. She is the definition of ‘cardboard’.

LeatherJacketWedding · 14/12/2024 23:11

Diane bloody Keaton!!! She’s ruined some otherwise fantastic films by playing the same ditzy character in all of them even when it really doesn’t work. I cringed seeing her on Graham Norton too

Rattatoille · 14/12/2024 23:13

ScentOfSawdust · 14/12/2024 20:41

Kris Marshall. No idea why he's ever been given leading roles when he barely has the talent for a primary school nativity.

Yes, and he's boring and ugleee ! He's even uglier than Martin Clunes.

BeardofHagrid · 14/12/2024 23:13

I thought Will Poulter was atrocious in Midsommar, but you could tell he thought his acting was amazing 😳 His American accent was terrible.

Radishknot · 14/12/2024 23:15

Florence Pugh is good and Micheal Keaton.

Bleachbum · 14/12/2024 23:15

Nowfreefromangst · 14/12/2024 17:29

Woody Harelson
Saw him on stage - just awful

What did you see him in?
I saw him in Night of The Iguana years ago and thought he was amazing.

As someone who has met both Tom Hanks and and Jonathon Ross as a lowly nobody to them, TH was an absolute gentleman, kind and considerate whilst JR treated me like some lowly peasant or stalker!

Easipeelerie · 14/12/2024 23:17

Daphne Moon’s mum and brother in Frasier.

Bleachbum · 14/12/2024 23:18

I would be with you all on KK (couldn’t stand her in Bend It Like Beckham, Love Actually and Atonement) but having watched her in Black Dove, her acting has definitely improved with age.

LushLemonTart · 14/12/2024 23:27

Flyylf · 14/12/2024 17:36

Eddie redmayne…no matter what character they’re all the same and he just pouts

Agree. Can't believe he was cast in the day of the Jackal. Yes it gets good reviews?

Phoebefail · 14/12/2024 23:32

Warren Clark; poor chap never did get a director that managed him properly. Always over the top and that smirk as in Dalziel and Pascoe. A real loss.

Neveranynamesleft · 14/12/2024 23:32

Another vote for Keira Knightley. Wooden as anything, bloody awful in Love Actually.

whynotwhatknot · 14/12/2024 23:33

sean connery always playe as himself ow did he get an oscar whhen he coulnt even do an accent is beyond me

NPET · 14/12/2024 23:34

StMarie4me · 14/12/2024 19:36

He wasn't banned for being a bad actor tho!

No he was just banned for being a bad person generally!
