Plays the same part in everything i've ever seen her in i'm afraid.

Even in Hot Fuzz? I thought she was great in that, definitely not like her usual characters.

LeafyGreenSalad · 14/12/2024 20:20

The cockney hard man who grunts before every line. Forget his name

bernadetteo · 14/12/2024 20:20

Danny absolutely fucking Dyer

I thought Rupert Grint was generally considered the least worst of the three of them?

He had a challenging job as the script writers did the Ron Weasley character dirty.

Emma Watson is light years worse. I could even see how bad she was when I was a young child. Allegedly she threw a tantrum aged 13 when the producers wanted her to have acting lessons because she was just so bad.

Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe is “tries very hard and just about pulls it off”.

Yes! Rupert Grint was excellent in Servant and Cabinet of Curiosities.

Karmakamelion · 14/12/2024 20:20

The woman who plays Shirley in easterners. Gurning is not acting. Also Steve macdonald in corrie. Awful nearly as bad as hair tossing Sean...

Waltdisnerd · 14/12/2024 20:22

Obviously those saying Daniel Radcliffe haven't seen him sing she'll be coming around the mountain 😁

Jc2001 · 14/12/2024 20:24

Liam Neeson. Schindler's List must have been one off. Pretty much every other film he's been in in the last 15 years is the same old shit formula, boring revenge film for which he's about 30 years too old for.

All my favourite actors listed so far.

Except Keira Knightley - she is not good

Not seen Black Doves then? She's phenomenal in.it.

This is a just a matter of personal taste tho isn't it? "Acting" can mean different things to different people. Like some people think Gary Oldman is the best actor who ever lived and some people think it's ott scenery chewing nonsense.
They've all got their own styles.. and also directors have their own styles.. and sometimes you get actors who aren't trained but have a certain vibe that works really well in certain films but fails abysmally in others.
But end of the day it's all subjective.
For example people like to hate on Kirsten Stewart dont they? But I actually really like her, despite hating Twilight.. I'd see something she was in..
Whereas Siorise Ronan I absolutely cannot stand even tho I know people say she's a wonderful actress, but there's just something about her.. if I see she's in something I'll think twice about watching it even if it's something I might like.

I think this is one of those things that is true and not true.

There is a real craft to acting, and some people have developed that craft and really are masters of it.

There are also some pretty good "natural" actors but often less versatile.

Any of those may be more or less appealing and charismatic to different individuals.

And then there are personalities, people like The Rock who are quite likable and charismatic and look good on screen but are mainly acting as the public version of themselves.

I think differernt countries have somewhat different expectations for actors as well. British actors have seemed much more immersed in craft than American actors, who tend to have one type of role or personality they specialize in. They have seemed to look for more naturalism in actors too, it seems to me. (OTOH, in the last few years I've felt like more and more British actors seem almost over-mannered, particularly younger ones - I've wondered if it's due to a change in training. ) But - I think sometimes what the expectations are for actors depend on what we are used to.

Pelagi · 14/12/2024 20:28

I always thought that Tom Hanks was going to be a dull actor, and avoided his films, but every film I’ve seen him in he’s been JUST RIGHT, no fuss, not the same in any of them either. Which I think is good acting. So now I would actively choose to watch a film of his.

Some of the big movie stars aren’t there to ACT though, they are there to just BE. Which is harder to do on screen than you might think (eg the various wooden people mentioned above who just can’t do it). So I would disagree with suggestions above like John Wayne and Sean Connery and even Michael Caine.

theresabluebirdinmyheart · 14/12/2024 20:28

Another vote for Emma Watson.

Also, Brad Pitt! Hate the way he talks, muttering the lines expressionlessly. His guest appearance in Friends makes me cringe.

KTheGrey · 14/12/2024 20:29

Ellmau · 14/12/2024 19:57

The blond one that plays Thor in the Marvel films. More wooden than a kitchen table, and about as much charisma.

Isn’t he the bimbo secretary in the female Ghostbusters remake? Funny sexy and can dance in that.

WishinAndHopin · 14/12/2024 20:30

VeganStar · 14/12/2024 18:59

Anna Maxwell Martin.
So bad.Funny gurnie faces in all she does.
Watched her in “Untill I kill you” a few weeks ago. Based on a true story. The woman she portrayed was supposed to have been Canadian but there was no trace of the Canadian accent at all. She just gurnied through the series just the same as her other parts.

To be fair, I’ve seen a documentary with the real victim, and she did have an unusual, unplaceable accent. I thought Anna Maxwell Martin did a very good job of imitating it.

Not so sure about the unflattering portrayal of the victim’s personality, but that’s a script issue.

You can't say Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson without mentioning the worst actor of them all - Rupert 'Bloody Hell' Grint.

And they’re all ungrateful little prigs.

Laserwho · 14/12/2024 20:31

Dakota Fanning. She was brilliant as a child actor up untill around 12 but. Seems to have lost the ability since then

I was going to say Keira Knightly too. Also an old film star from years ago-Robert Mitchum- known in our family as Cardboard Mitchum.

I have to disagree! He was superb in The Night of the Hunter.

ToothHurtyAppointment · 14/12/2024 20:34

Daniel Radcliffe and Sidney Sweeney. Oh edit to add Ryan Reynolds.

And they’re all ungrateful little prigs.

when you say 'ungrateful prigs' do you mean they voiced a different opinion to that of the person who wrote the book and was involved in their casting in the movies at the ages of 9-11?

JK didn't have Harry Potter made into a movie franchise because she was so eager to provide job opportunities and wealth to young actors. She did it to see her book transformed to the big screen, to raise the profile of her story further, and to enrich herself. And even if it was entirely philanthropic, do you really think the cast should be beholden to agree with someone just because they gave them a job when they were an actual child?

Guilty as charged - just couldn’t remember his name!

KTheGrey · 14/12/2024 20:15

Me too, but Portman can act and has a nice speaking voice, so you know the difference when the dialogue starts.

That's why kiera played the doppelganger handmaid of padme/Natalie in star wars.

GorillaGlue · 14/12/2024 20:39

Agree with anyone who said Emma Watson. Do not get the hype at all!

TempestTost · 14/12/2024 20:39

QuintessentialDragon · 14/12/2024 18:29

Omg, yes, YES! I don't hate him that much, but I'm seriously baffled why so many people simply adore him. I suppose he can be likeable, with that shy bumbling mumbling of his (more like annoying), but still. He's certainly no Pacino, Brando or DDL in acting department. Now Keanu is a shit actor, but he's a good person and people love him. I totally get it and I like him too. But no one calls him a 'great actor', they call him a great guy. Hanks gets called a great actor all the time and he's not.

The Rock, Statham, Stallone, Norris, Chan, Van Damme, Hemsworth, Momoa, Diesel etc - they're not actors, they're action stars, there's a difference. They don't need to act. They need to look good, be buff, smash&crash and be charismatic.

Now as for shit ones, deff Keira 'the drawer' Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Emilia Clarke, Watson, Radcliffe, Hugh Grant, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristen Stewart, Aniston, all the Baldwins, Sandler - there are tons.

Totally agree up to Sandler.

Not that I like him,but he'snot an actor in the same way the action starts aren't - he's a comic. Like Will Farrell, Ben Stiller, or even Chevy Chase. You don't expect them to act as such.

Though it's always nice when you find one who can actually act - maybe someone like Bill Murray in comedy, or Chow Yun Fat for the action guys.

Robert Mitchum is a fucking legend. Night of the Iguana.and he was a hobo before he was an actor, double cool
