If you had an abusive/toxic parent that suddenly became seriously ill. Think disabled kind of ill, were the suddenly either couldn't walk/hear/lose their sight. Would you still cut them off? Or would you have sympathy on them and continue to let them be part of your life despite the trauma they previously caused?

Are they a part of your life at the moment? If so, then I would carry on letting them be a part of my life. If you’ve cut them off, though, you need to decide whether you are prepared to have a relationship or not. Only you can know the extent of the toxic abuse they put you through. For what it’s worth, though, if this is a life-limiting condition, maybe better to make your peace with them? You are the person who will have to live long-term with whatever decision you make,
