What do you consider the prettiest part of the UK?

I wfh and can move pretty much anywhere. Giving up on London.

Without being practical ie considering infrastructure, transport, weather, demographics etc - where do you consider the prettiest part of the UK to be? I’m talking in terms of natural scenery and architecture. Or you could split it up.

I personally adore Norfolk. Coastline is unrivalled and the flint and brick is gorgeous. You obviously can’t beat the Cotswolds either for buildings but the landscape isn’t my favourite.

My answer would be:
buildings/architecture - Cotswolds (very unoriginal but I’m a sucker for limestone)
natural beauty - Pembrokeshire

Just hoping to hear about places I’ve never heard of.

Not wanting to offend at all. I LOVE the Pembrokeshire coastline but I’m sorry to say I found the buildings a little bit run down when I visited in Summer.

Cornwall is essentially heaven on earth imo.

DdraigGoch · 13/12/2024 21:02

The West Highlands, Scotland.

HRTQueen · 13/12/2024 21:16

Dorset and Suffolk are very pretty

North Yorkshire is very striking but absolutely freezing when the wind blows

madaboutpurple · 13/12/2024 21:20

I think Scarborough is a lovely town. It has the shops and lots of coffee/tea shops .Lovely fish and chip places and people are friendly. The sea is just a short walk away. I think it is perfect.

Ellmau · 13/12/2024 21:20

I love Dorset. Green rolling hills, seaside, Corfe Castle, and so much more.

FuckItItsFine · 13/12/2024 21:22

Royal Deeside in NE Scotland.

Lovemusic82 · 13/12/2024 21:25

Not including where I live…

Pembrokeshire (went for the first time this year and loved it way more than the rest of Wales).

Cotswolds….for the reasons already mentioned.

Dartmoor, I go often but not sure it would be easy to find a property there.

Cornwall….if it wasn’t for how busy it gets in the summer.

Delatron · 13/12/2024 21:27

Yorkshire Dales.

I get a weird vibe from the Cotswolds- don’t know why.

Hull is nice.

What?!

AndThereSheGoes · 13/12/2024 21:35

West Sussex especially the Downs for me. There's just something about gentle white chalk slopes, short grass and sun you get there.
I get why people say the Lakes, Scotland, Yorkshire and things but it's all just so grey. Buildings and weather. Give me a flint cottage anyday.

Firebird83 · 13/12/2024 21:40

Devon and Cornwall

Lankyboxx · 13/12/2024 21:41

Dorset, the Jurassic coast is gorgeous

Speckyfourfries · 13/12/2024 21:46

Northumberland for quiet unspoilt beaches

CorneliaStreet · 13/12/2024 21:58

The New Forest.

Scottish Western Isles/Highlands
Northumbrian coast
Yorkshire dales

I like big skies + hills over pretty villages

All great choices I agree . !

Imbusytodaysorry · 13/12/2024 22:04

Seems the north west coast wins
.Highlands my favourite place ever .
The islands are amazing too.

I do like Northumberland . The Scottish borders on Edinburgh side has a lot to offer . Decent weather too ans it’s on the east. .

On a warm june day the Isles of Scilly are pretty unrivalled

Phoebefail · 13/12/2024 22:29

Warwickshire to Leicestershire. Stratford on Avon to Leicester, for countryside go south to Cotswolds and Buckinghamshire.
I like the area for the buildings and sites of history from Roman to Georgian and early Victorian.
The Castles of Warwick and Kenilworth. Oxford University. Coventry for the industry, Canals and railways flow through the area near Watling Street. The name de Montfort lives on in Leicester so many different stages of our history weave together. Easy travelling distance to so many and the village churches of Northamptonshire a rewarding area for the intellect.

Madcats · 13/12/2024 22:48

Waves at Bathonians and lobs somewhere like Tisbury/ Cranborne Chase into the mix. Close enough to Salisbury or the coast to not be too isolated.

Isles of Scilly are lovely, and we knew somebody who managed to build a house there, but it isn't straightforward.

Crikeyalmighty · 14/12/2024 00:08

@Madcats waving at you from a very foggy claverton down!! I like the area round Salisbury too - great for the coast and attractive enough -but as I said earlier I love nice scenery but I like facilities too - the other area I like is Surrey Hills - again attractive but easy to access good facilities -

I know North Yorkshire is in here a lot, and deservedly so, but most people have talked about the Dales. Can I put a call in for the other end of the county? The Howardians, the Cleveland Hills and the Moors are also beautiful. Not much in the way of infrastructure, but worth a visit.

Time40 · 14/12/2024 00:35

Cambridgeshire

What? It's very very flat and very very boring!

Prettiest - Pembrokeshire. Not pretty, but most beautiful - west coast of Scotland.

RobertaFirmino · 14/12/2024 00:39

I would always choose Snowdonia. I never get bored of visiting. I'm not sure it is pretty in a conventional sense but in terms of outstanding natural beauty, it's amazing. Plenty of prettiness in North Wales as a whole though.

RM2013 · 14/12/2024 00:45

North wales - where I spent many childhood holidays
Cotswolds - the villages and buildings are just beautiful
Ive also done lots of charity hikes and visited the Gower peninsula, Jurassic coast, Yorkshire and Northumberland coast and found all these areas to be stunning.
adore Cornwall as well
