What do you consider the prettiest part of the UK?

I wfh and can move pretty much anywhere. Giving up on London.

Without being practical ie considering infrastructure, transport, weather, demographics etc - where do you consider the prettiest part of the UK to be? I’m talking in terms of natural scenery and architecture. Or you could split it up.

I personally adore Norfolk. Coastline is unrivalled and the flint and brick is gorgeous. You obviously can’t beat the Cotswolds either for buildings but the landscape isn’t my favourite.

My answer would be:
buildings/architecture - Cotswolds (very unoriginal but I’m a sucker for limestone)
natural beauty - Pembrokeshire

Just hoping to hear about places I’ve never heard of.

Not wanting to offend at all. I LOVE the Pembrokeshire coastline but I’m sorry to say I found the buildings a little bit run down when I visited in Summer.

West Coast of Scotland
North Wales
Yorkshire Dales
Some parts of the Peak District

Theotherone234 · 13/12/2024 15:45

Derbyshire

For cities Newcastle

Newcastle is 30 mins drive from

kielder - forest, dark skies etc
Hadrians wall - roman ruins, forts
Lake district
Cheviots - can walk to Scotland
Scotland
Northumberland - castles, beaches
Coast - tynemouth
Shopping - city or metrocentre
Historic buildings
Grainger street
The river and bridges
Catherine Cookson country
North york Moors
Pennine way
Durham

I'm from Newcastle, lived there for the 1st 40 years of my life.

Because it has no motorway going there, and no jobs, and poor weather, it isn't a big tourist spot. So it remains largely unchanged and is such a special place.

However, for overall beauty it is, for me, Derbyshire. I don't know why but the gentle rolling hills get me right in the feels lol

Els1e · 13/12/2024 15:53

Dorset for me

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 13/12/2024 15:56

Peak District

Real1378262 · 13/12/2024 15:58

Devon. Haven't visited there much but last time I remember driving along a coastal road, the sand and sea looked glorious, it felt we were in the South of France or somewhere.

But it was a beautifully warm and sunny few days, always looks and feels better in the warmth!

London is the only part of the UK of any significance to the ROW. So London.

Moonlightstars · 13/12/2024 16:01

West coast of Scotland is stunning. Can't think of a more beautiful part of the UK.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/12/2024 16:07

Anglesey, Snowdonia and some bits of the Gower are just beautiful.

There are so many places I haven't been - the Highlands were a bit big for me but I would love to visit the islands and the west coast of Scotland.

blackberryhill · 13/12/2024 16:10

West coast of Scotland is ridiculously beautiful. Crossed it by train a few years back and abandoned my book to just stare our of the window at it.

FKAT · 13/12/2024 16:13

Brecon Beacons or Pembrokeshire, Edinburgh Pentland hills and any postcode of London with pastel stucco Georgian houses (like sugared almonds).

Maybe it's cos I'm from Herefordshire that I find the Cotswolds a bit meh. Golden Valley and Malvern Hills in summer are gorgeous.

Jellycatspyjamas · 13/12/2024 16:14

The Highlands for me too, Glencoe is just stunning, in saying that the Isle of Skye would be my choice if money and distance were no object - mountains and sea.

LaurieFairyCake · 13/12/2024 16:15

The Lizard

(A lot of the places mentioned are fucking cold and wet so are shit to live in but lovely to get out of a warm tour bus in June and take a photo. I'm looking at you Glencoe)

Ohshutupalan · 13/12/2024 16:15

Shropshire where I am lucky to call home.

FKAT · 13/12/2024 16:17

Yeah, Clee Hill is stunning.

London is the only part of the UK of any significance to the ROW. So London.

Significance elsewhere isn't relevant to the OPs question about 'prettiness'.

It's impossible to choose, but the U.K. is small enough we can get to most of the lovely places mentioned fairly easily.
So the best thing is to live right in the middle of the country - which gives you the Forest of Bowland on your doorstep, with Lakes, Dales, north wales, Cheshire, Peak District in daytrip reach and the rest within a days drive except for some of the Scottish islands.

Annabella92 · 13/12/2024 16:24

West Coast of Scotland, Glencoe, Mull, the other Islands. Further up the Highlands also.

cosima4 · 13/12/2024 16:25

It's all about the weather - in which case, stay in London!

Magnastorm · 13/12/2024 16:25

The west coast and highlands of Scotland, by a country mile.

London is many things, but pretty it is not, with the exception of a few isolated bits.

turbonerd · 13/12/2024 16:26

Aberdeenshire.
Lovely coastline. Big and small towns. Slightly better weather than the West coast 😄
Affordable houses and apparently the pints are cheap.
And I love the beaches!

Squirrelsnut · 13/12/2024 16:27

The Cotswolds. I live on the border. It's ridiculously, insanely pretty. I like lush trees and gentle hills. Bare mountains and craggy hills do nothing for me.

89redballoons · 13/12/2024 16:29

The North Devon/Cornwall coast, all the way down from around Mortehoe to Padstow. I've done all kinds of travelling, in the UK and abroad, and whenever we're booking a holiday I'm still drawn back to these places. Especially in the off season. Port Isaac, Boscastle, Crackington Haven, Widemouth Bay, Appledore, Saunton Sands.

MrsMitford3 · 13/12/2024 16:29

Yorkshire Dales

SoySaucy · 13/12/2024 16:29

North Yorkshire if you like coastline and pretty buildings
