Applying for a new job

I currently work as a TA in a primary school. I love my job but the pay is rubbish and we are now being asked to sign a new job description that states we have to deal with aggression from children, both physical and verbal, without a right to refuse to work with specific children if assaulted by them. I was hit a lot as a child and spent years getting over that, I’m now in my fifties and just would not be able to cope with being hit at work. I see it happening to my colleagues, intervened to help and I’ve been lashed out at before but I’ve never had to spend all day every day with a child who could potentially really hurt me. It seems those days are nearly over.

AIBU to look for another job knowing that this will be the end of me working with kids which I have so enjoyed? I will be leaving the teacher I work with in the lurch, and not finishing the year with my class especially the small group I primarily work with. I feel really bad but I’m worried if I leave it to the summer I won’t get a job in time.

Utterly unacceptable to be told to sign a contract accepting verbal and physical abuse as part of your job.
You don’t have to sign the contract.
The school clearly don’t give a monkeys about the safety and well being of their staff and on that basis I would strongly recommend that you start looking for a job asap and get yourself out of that situation.
The more people who vote with their feet and walk away from this shitty treatment the better.
I notice that it seems to be mostly women who have to put up with this nonsense!
