Am I being critical

Hubby spilled beer on carpet and I said ugh! This caused him to go off on one. It was just a reaction on my part to having the carpet wrecked. Was I in the wrong and should I have kept quiet .

Hardly seems a big deal on either part!

Did he spill it by accident? Is it generally a one off? Does he do this on a regular basis? Is the carpet actually ruined or does it just need a bit of spraying and sponging?

Context will change this.

It was an accident but he does it quite regularly. Luckily we have carpet shampoo. I didn't actually say anything just ugh! No different than I say when cats are sick on carpet. . In fact I usually call them everything but cats.

Who cleaned it up?

He did. That wasn't the problem. If I spilt something I would say the same thing about myself. I wasn't criticising him but he obviously thought I was. I was just asking if others would say anything if beer was spilt on the carpet. To me it was just a normal reaction no matter who had the accident

I'd probably say bugger or suchlike but if you really did say ugh and he kicked off, that seems a bit extreme.

I guess it's in the way you said it. I can see how saying "ugh" could come across as highly critical (and be the final straw if you do it a lot). If it was a very brief involuntary noise then sounds like an overreaction.

I'd have probably said for fuck sake and if he'd have gone off on one I'd have told him where to shove his beer bottle 😁
