Fish pie.

Buy a really good quality white/bechamel sauce.

Mix in a packet of fish pie mix and some extra prawns. Lay in a dish and top with ready made mash...sprinkle with some grated cheese and bake until bubbling.

Serve with some steamed asparagus

Sorry, this did make me chuckle. The irony of your username 🤣🤣🤣

Comedy gold. I'm don't mean to be mean, I am being light-hearted. Totally prepared to be flamed.

Get a variety of mushrooms - button mushrooms, portobello mushrooms, chestnut (as an example), slice them and fry off in some butter in a pan (I'm assuming they're vegetarian and not vegan?) then add a knorr veg stock pot for flavour and 1/2 tsp-1tsp of garlic puree, stir for a few mins and and a good glug of white wine. Cook for a few mins more and add some double cream or crème fraiche (whatever you prefer), season to taste. I normally then buy the bags of fresh pasta which you cook for 5 mins, cook a bag or 2 of that (depending on how many you're cooking for) then stir the cooked and drained pasta in with your mushrooms. Serve in a bowl with some fresh, chopped parsley on top and you may want to throw a couple of garlic baguettes in the oven to serve alongside. I've also served with a bowl of fresh salad with French dressing (as it helps to cut through the creaminess of the sauce). You could even fry off some sliced leeks at the same time as the mushrooms if you wanted more of a variety of veg in your pasta.

Sounds more complicated than it is, this is super easy to make and really tasty.

@JustDeserts traditionally no, but Yakso do a vegan oyster sauce if you ever fancied trying that recipe.

You are suggesting cooking several bags of pasta, bread, and masses of fried mushrooms for a dying man?

Are you AI or simply stupid?

HereForTheAnimals · 13/12/2024 18:59

@Words out of curiosity, who is dying?

Windywuss · 13/12/2024 19:03

JustDeserts · 13/12/2024 17:56

@WinterCrow , they are vegetarians, so they won't be eating fish.

@Grealish Personally I wouldn’t enjoy half the meals suggested. Me neither.
Soup isn't a meal IMO, and mushroom risotto sounds awful.

Soup is a perfectly lovely thing for lunch.

Blush you are quite right. I have mixed up two threads.

But (puffs up ample bosom) please don't feed them curried lentils or chilli slop.

Veg lasagne is always pretty terrible too, unless you have no palate.

Fish pie might work.

Blueuggboots · 13/12/2024 19:05

This.

Readysetgooo · 13/12/2024 19:07

Homemade soup with a crusty loaf and thick butter.

Also yes to pp's suggestion of chilli and sides of sour cream, salsa and nachos.

Hungry just thinking about all the great suggestions 🤤

🤣 we are still getting to the bottom of whether they are vegetarian or not. The OP doesn't state that they are, but I would include fish as being meat if someone said they didn't eat meat. Some people think the same as me, others not.

CosyDenimShark · 13/12/2024 19:10

I'm veggie, I'd love vegetable lasagne or bean chilli with nachos and garlic bread, garlic mushrooms for a starter and a brownie or cheesecake for pudding!

Words · 13/12/2024 19:16

Yes but we have already discarded those unwise options@CosyDenimShark .

Would you eat a nice fish pie?

HereForTheAnimals · 13/12/2024 19:20

Not if I was or wasn't dying 👍

Words · 13/12/2024 19:26

Oh Ok. How about a very gently poached turbot fillet with buttered asparagus then?

Also probably no I guess!

I'd go with this 😉

Now you are messing with me! :D

Squash and sage risotto with garlic bread
Creamy garlic and mushroom stroganoff
Lentil and vegetable cottage pie/lasagne
Lentil dal with rice, naans, vegetarian sides

Can I come to your house for tea please? You are describing all my favourites

@JustDeserts traditionally no, but Yakso do a vegan oyster sauce if you ever fancied trying that recipe.

I'm aware that one can buy a vegetarian oyster sauce substitute, but the recipe says oyster sauce, and someone following the recipe might not realise that oyster sauce isn't vegetarian.

HereForTheAnimals · 13/12/2024 19:34

Absolutely not. I'd expect copious amounts of alcohol too mind.

In all honesty, if it was going to be my last ever meal, I'd have to go with mashed potatoes, broccoli, carrot and swede, spring cabbage and onion all fried together with a generous serving of vitalite and white pepper, served with white bread and Naturli butter, along with a shit load of alcohol. I'd go happy.

JustDeserts · 13/12/2024 19:35

Not for me.

This is true, and you made that clear. Now those following who don't eat meat or fish know, and they also know there is an alternative ❤️

Words · 13/12/2024 19:38

I'd go for that @HereForTheAnimals .

If I had to ;)

Words · 13/12/2024 19:42

pS not the swede though. I have tried and tried and really don't like.

JustDeserts · 13/12/2024 19:42

@HereForTheAnimals , I had a meal cooked for me by someone who didn't realise that fish sauce wasn't. I'd said I didn't eat fish.

@words, try roasting the swede instead of boiling it. Same with parsnips, it changes the flavour and texture.
