Am I expecting too much from manager?!

Ok I’m stressing out. I started my new job on Tuesday, this is a field I’ve never worked in before (company knows this).

The first day my manager was in training all day and so I just read through the training material - which didn’t even fill up my whole day.

Then today manager has called me and ask “so what have you got planned for today?”

Am I expecting too much? I don’t need my hand holding but I need some guidance

Oh no! So how did that conversation play out, what did you say to the manager?
It's hard to say without knowing your seniority level and what field/job you came from and into - there are circumstances in which I'd expect a person to be able to get on with it but I personally would want to give them more guidance as a manager just to be welcoming.

Where in the hierarchy are you? If it's an entry level post, I would expect an induction plan from my line manager. If it is higher up, I would be expected to take initiative so I would have asked for contact details of my colleagues on the first day and arranged shadowing or asked to attend any meetings that were planned for the day.
Also, it is often assumed that mandatory training takes a very long time to complete. It doesn't but your manager may not have realised that you finished that part already.
