He seems to have not received any support or protection from the state even after 3 years, and hasn't been able to resume his life.

Is this reasonable?

Teacher STILL in hiding nearly two years after suspension

The teacher, who is in his late 20s, showed the controversial image to children at Batley Grammar School in West Yorkshire in March 2021, sparking heated protests by parents and activists.

No that's awful

Bowietips · 11/12/2024 00:38

That's absolutely appalling.

What is unreasonable is starting a thread based on an article several months old and starting a continuation quoting an even older article. You don't know what is going on with this teacher because you have no up to date information.

None of it should have happened. How the police and our institutions deal with harassment and religious extremists and what becomes the standard in dealing with all this stuff concerns all of us. We should be worried that the police have turned into jelly.

I don't disagree. However, the point I made remains valid.

You don't get it that British culture means we can show the Popes arse and Mohamed's chops without any repercussions apart from a mild rebuke - death threats! Cor blimey O'riley - we mustn't ever ever succumb to these threats and religious nonsense

Don't you remember the troubles and the resulting behaviour even within the Catholic and Protestant communities. Kickings for being found in an opposite area, knee capped for shouting offensive language at certain people, killings. This is still going on today in Ireland although to a lesser degree.

Is it still going on in Northern Ireland? The GFA has been pretty successful.
And of course it was never about religion anyway.

You're absolutely right, there haven't been news for a while.

In the face of everything that's happened, and given that no arrests have been made regarding the threats against his life, no measures taken that would keep him safe from harm, it'd astonishing and newsworthy if he had been able to go back to Batley, or indeed resume a normal life.

The victim is still being victimised, the criminals are still unpunished. Don't you think that's noteworthy?

Why is it inconvenient that we should remember this young man's life is still at jeopardy?

In the face of evil and criminality, society should forget the rule of law and yield to violent thugs?

I guess I should kick a bit more of a fuss about my TV license.

As I understand it the people making the threats have since assured that the teacher would come to no harm.

TV license, well if your daft enough to pay it. That's on you. Not had one for about 15 years as sod all worth watching on it.

I guess that makes it alright then. I'm sure the thugs who previously threatened death on a UK citizen and went unpunished will make sure he comes to no harm and can conduct his life in a thoroughly unperturbed manner.

A family member revealed that communication with him has been limited, stating, "I literally haven't seen him since it all happened. There's not been much communication with the family, and we don't push things. I doubt he will ever return to Batley; he just wants to put it behind him."

He's just being overly sensitive and a bit secretive. Along with his partner and four children:

The incident, which occurred in March 2021, led to several days of demonstrations outside the school and forced the teacher to leave Yorkshire, living under an assumed name in a secret location with his partner and four children.

Give your head a wobble, will ya?

An external investigation cleared the teacher of intentional offense

The best thing you can do for him is to not start threads about him on Mumsnet. Probably one of the reasons he still has to be in hiding!

Meadowfinch · 17/12/2024 01:24

@ARealitycheck 'As I understand it the people making the threats have since assured that the teacher would come to no harm.'

I hope you aren't suggesting they should be believed. People behaving with such vicious and ignorant aggression are incapable of logic or reason, are completely untrustworthy and should be in jail.

Nothing else will improve the safety of teachers and other professionals in Batley or anywhere else,

I hope the teacher has been able to rebuild his life somewhere new.

Raising awareness about the fact he still has to hide from death threats, after not being afforded victim status and going no contact with his family, is, I'm sure, why he is still in hiding.

Give your head a mighty wobble too.

No @sillything I don't need to give my head 'a wobble' thanks all the same.

user243245346 · 17/12/2024 06:58

No. Not acceptable. There are serious issues with the way Islamist religious extremism is dealt with in our country. Its simply not taken seriously enough despite consequences

sillything · 20/12/2024 16:56

timetodecide2345 · 17/12/2024 03:40

No @sillything I don't need to give my head 'a wobble' thanks all the same.

I mean, you told me I was somehow responsible for his need to stay in hiding, but failed to mention the people threatening him with death.

It's almost as if you think I have agency and am responsible for the actions of others, while those "others" have neither agency nor responsibility for their own actions, let alone those of others.

I fail to see any logic here.
