Watched Colleen Rooney in the jungle and now rewatching the wagatha thing on itv2, she just comes across so well, I actually love the background story and wonder even though they have all this money, I wonder if they ever crave those simple days of being 16 before it all kicked off. Just very normal people.
She seems so strong, classy, kind, just a morally good person really.

I think being a mother to 4 children is a great achievement

Is it? Just that? Regardless of what sort of mother you might be? Regardless of the upbringing the children have or the people you help form?

User14March · 10/12/2024 17:35

@SherbetSweeties if her reason for going into the jungle was only to show ‘us’ she’s not as VV portrayed & all round good egg she didn’t need to. She came out of the ‘Wagatha’ debacle so well.

She said she’s wanted to do it for years.

Yes, I watched an entertainment show on TV but wasn't entertained by Colleen at all. So no praise from me, sorry about that @Thedogscollar
TBF, the show was a bore-fest generally this year - this is just a special mention to Colleen and her contribution.

And yes, I do have aspirations, passions and a talent that I have had success with. That doesn't stop me being friendly and nice to people and also doesn't make me special (I shoulda' married a footie player for that).

If the role model standard for women is an empty skin filled with "agreeable" and "nice" then have Colleen all to yourself. #blessed #inspirational

I am in no doubt you are aspirational as your user name implies. We can't all like the same things #bedifferent #strongwomen #AIBU #probably #probably not #don'tcare 😉

Well she hasn't divorced him.... @LambriniBobInIsleworthISeesYa

But I agree I don't get particularly strong Catholic vibes from her I just think she's a girl raised to put up with alot & if it wasn't Wayne (due to money/family) it'd be somebody else (due to looks/personality)

These girls are just raised to get with men locally & have kids young

There are probably also custody reasons why she hasn't wanted a split from him since the oldest was born though

Who are 'these girls' please?

MikeRafone · 10/12/2024 19:38

Lookatthetwinklylights · 09/12/2024 21:44

@HRTQueen They’ve been together since they were 16, 4 kids together, life isn’t that simple. It’s not excusable at all, but he was drunk, young from a working class background with all this money and girls probably being thrown at him. I wouldn’t have been able to forgive, but the issue of four kids together etc…it must have been hard.

What has Coleen achieved, accomplished? What is it that we should be admiring?

Anyone who is raising four dc and is doing it well deserves a medal and is very admirable indeed in my book.

But before children she wrote a fashion column and did some tv work. Like many women, she is getting back to work now her youngest is five or six.

Also, she’s far from thick. “These girls” is very patronising.

She didn’t choose to do A levels but she got 10 o-levels and could have easily gone to university presumably?

In addition to newspaper and tv work, she also headed up a £3 million pound George at Asda advertising campaign, had a similar deal with Littlewoods and has published about four books. That’s lots more than a lot of people have achieved.

I suspect that people are disparaging her achievements out of snobbery.

These girls who settled young with various sportsmen then build followings who claim they can't leave due to the multiple kids & there spouses who run around on them can't function without them as they've been their before the fame/success/money ect.

Id lump Connor McGregor Mrs in there aswell - if she wasnt with him she'd be with somebody else like him so "leaving" is not necessarily worth the hassle regardless of how their treated

If you feel offended by that due to self perceived similarities based on location/religion/culture/money then that's on you....

I’m not clear what you’re saying here. Are you saying that Coleen Rooney not divorcing an unfaithful husband is the same as Dee Devlin standing by someone found guilty of a violent sexual assault and publicly attacking his victim and calling her a liar?

I didn't realise that people who form a relationship with sportsmen are all from exactly th same background 😂

Or that they are they only people who put up with less than perfect relationships for the kids (it's not like there aren't multiple posts about similar issues in Mumsnet from women across a range of backgrounds on a daily basis).

If you can let me know what location/religion/culture/money all partners of sportsmen are from I will let you know if am also from that homogenous group of women, and whether I am offended in solidarity with them...

I find it interesting how we often see on mumsnet, a husband with a high flying career e.g. city lawyer or in finance, which pays mega money but leaves them available for very little practical parenting, unanimous recognition that he would not have been able to have that career without the wife sacrificing her career and keeping the home and family ticking over like clockwork.
However in this case, it's a bloke from a working class background who has been successful through a working class sport (which involves extensive travel, working away etc but pays incredibly well). Apparently she has nothing to be proud of, is only with him for the lifestyle etc.
From what I can see she makes sure that their 4 children have a high quality of life and learn good social skills and morals. They have a luxurious life, go to the best schools etc but she makes sure that they are not in a bubble, e.g. they have been to Butlins.

She does not seem materialistic. She talks about how her parents described themselves as 'having won the lottery'- metaphorically as in they were healthy, a loving family, had a secure home etc.

Her eldest goes to a highly selective academic school (one you will see mumsnetters cutting their arm off to get their kids into). Several of them play football at a high level through club academies. She clearly supports her parents and is involved in the kids schools etc. She is doing a cracking job of bringing up 4 young men in a bubble where they could easily be taught not to work so hard.

The idea that she stays for the lifestyle is ridiculous. They have been married for about 20 years and have 4 kids. If they divorced she would be awarded a fortune.

The double standard is blinding obvious.

Yadnbu
I was impressed with her on I’m a celebrity…
I think she’s a good solid person. She's definitely got a lot of grit and determination.

Also impressed with her putting silly traitor girl VV in her place.

Dee devlin put up with years of very legitimate cheating that ended with her looking stupid in court & on social media by standing by him on a rape charge....

He didn't go from family man to accused rapist the first time he played away

It’s incredibly disturbing that you think ‘rapist’ and ‘family man’ are two entirely separate categories of human being.

I wouldn't put McGregor in the category of family man ...

I don't think of Colleen as being a role model but she seems a nice person
