It's a difficult time of year for many people. I am very much struggling at the moment and would love to hear some nice stories.

I'll start - we put up our Xmas decorations yesterday and both DC joined in and had fun. They are both having a hard time right now so to see them be children and be together was lovely.

My Christmas tree is so pretty and sparkly.
It makes my living room so cosy.
I love it.

Ontobetterthings · 09/12/2024 18:54

I just finished a project at work today. Been working on it last 9 months and it's been very successful 😌

ItsVeryComplicated · 09/12/2024 18:56

That's a good idea.

We're having a super-hard time too and a bit cheer is a good idea.

Um...

We have been trying to buy broken old musical instruments on ebay and fix them up and this week we got one all put back together after giving it a good wash. That was nice.

Fannyfiggs · 09/12/2024 18:58

I've put my decorations up and the cats haven't destroyed them so that's a result 🤣 in fact the neighbourhood cat who doesn't actually live here but thinks he lives here hasn't even batted an eye at the shiny baubles. Is he even a cat? 😸

Anyway, that's my happy story for today so I'll stop rambling now lol.

Needmorelego · 09/12/2024 19:06

@Fannyfiggs it's funny. My childhood cat (who lived to a good old 17 years) and the two cats that my mum has had in recent years - none of them were/are interested in the Christmas trees 😂
I feel I missed out on that important cat ritual

MumOfOneAllAlone · 09/12/2024 19:07

we got our heating fixed after our boiler broke and we were without it for a couple of days.

The Christmas lights in my windows make me feel really joyous. My daughter is five and has autism, but I think she’s starting to understand what Christmas is.

These make me feel joyful. I’m sorry this year is so difficult for you. May 2025 be great. X

Well done, that sounds like a satisfying project!
I hope your hard times pass soon

My autistic 4 year old ds wrote his name for the first time today and he made me a lovely Christmas tree decoration which he has put proudly on the tree

Myself and another local food business (also woman owned ✊) have recently set up a food exchange system. She orders for her family on a Saturday night from me & I get dinner from her on a Wednesday night for me & my family.

Not sure why but it gets me in the feelz every time, just feels good & wholesome when we could just be in competition with each other (different food but both unique in a sparsely populated rural area) but instead we do this & I love it 😊

Daisymae55 · 09/12/2024 23:40

My 2 year old has started giving me hugs and calling me her “best friend” 😭🥰 It just absolutely melts my heart (which is just as well as she’s at a frustratingly defiant stage 😂)

I'm late 40s. Last summer I changed careers and I'm really glad I went for it. Less money per hour, but full time means I'm on slightly more overall but more importantly I'm enjoying it. Excited for Christmas too.

TiggeryBear · 09/12/2024 23:47

I started my new job today - my new boss is wonderful! We're on the same wavelength & we have many similar interests, I'm really excited to work with her.
After an absolutely horrendous 13 months, this is hopefully the start of a positive change to my life.

Just realised I didn't make it clear we don't charge each other, no money changes hands

A few days ago I said out loud; "where's my tea, I'm gasping"

DS5 spotted my cup and brought it over to me from the TV cabinet where I had placed it when playing with him earlier. It doesn't sound all that big written down like that but it really melted my heart.

askmenothing · 10/12/2024 05:36

My DD 12, snuggled me in bed on Friday and said 'we are really lucky aren't we mum, we just got to watch a movie under a duvet on our lovely sofa and Mr Nothing (her stepdad) made the yummiest tea!! We are just so lucky, lots of people don't have this. I love our life!'
I work my arse off, as does DH and the fact she appreciates what we have just melted me!!

Also my DH has planned a party for my 40th and made a real effort to invite people I love. I'm so thrilled and not allowed to lift a finger!

Hollowvoice · 10/12/2024 18:00

Small things - I wore lots of sparkly things to work today too cheer myself up and cheered up some other people too.
