Name changed

Why do people start a post by saying 'name changed for this one'? What is the point of making that statement? Why not just change the name then make the post? It's adding zero value telling people you've changed your username. So annoying.

In the early days of Mumsnet, (when people were still fairly polite on SM 😄), some posters would change their username to sock puppet on threads.

This resulted in some posters when starting a genuine thread, telling you they’d changed their username but then quoting lots of old posts to show that they were genuine and had been on Mumsnet for a while.

I agree though that now it’s not needed and means nothing.

It’s because if you start a juicy/controversial/etc thread and it appears that you’re new here, you get posters saying ‘interesting first post’ and accusing you if being a troll.
