To move to a less convenient job for more money

Im at the top of my pay band, I will not be able to earn anymore money unless I pick up bank shifts or attend training next year, complete a years training and then move up to the next pay band while still in my same role.

My current job is very convenient, its close to home, flexible with hours, easy work to be honest, im busy but its manageable and little stress.

Ive been working in this role for 9 years and im feeling like I should be in a more senior role. There are a few more senior posts being advertised, i meet the criteria but the jobs would be less flexible in terms of work, working from home etc and could be more stressful. They are the higher pay band and one is shift work so could potentially save money in childcare. Not really sure what to do:
You are being unreasonable -stick in the current job, do the training next year and then move up band in essentially 2 years within my same role

You are not being unreasonable - apply for these higher band roles now with my current experience but end up in a potentially less convenient/more stressful role

How young are your children? Will different working hours impact them / do you have a partner to share the load?

If your children are still fairly young I'd stick where you are now, having less stress in one part of your life is useful. As the children grow and become more independent and less stressful then take on more responsibility at work.

If work would pay for the training I'd do that - add another string to my bow ready to move on in a while.

Do a pros and cons list. Flexability is worth a lot more when you have kids and if it’s shifts your sleep pattern will change I know you want to be higher up but do you the stress that goes along side it?
