To complain about delivery?

fivebyfivebuffy · 09/12/2024 16:40

Just had a delivery which was the second part of an order
First part fine, no issues, different driver
Second has turned up stinking of cigarette smoke - I'm an ex smoker so I don't say stinking of it lightly!
Even the contents smell of it (bedding, throws) and one part is a soft fabric that isn't washable either, it's like a fleece covered bolster pillow

Not sure whether to complain to the company or the delivery driver

I don't suppose the company can regulate the delivery drivers and if they are smoking whilst driving , but it might be worth letting the delivery company know your not happy ?

Complaintsp to the seller. I had this problem and the items were replaced. Their contract is with the courier company and they should take it up with them.

Yeah it's just a pain that it smells
I'm not fussed about second hand smoke etc but this bolster thing is for under my pillows on my bed and I don't really want it smelling

If it was summer I would just chuck it in the garden for a bit!

A delivery van is a workplace, so unless it's a self-employed driver with their own van the delivery company can regulate it.

Was the parcel packaged well.

If it was the delivery driver at fault how long would they of had the parcel in their van for for the smoke to had gone through the packaging.

Well, it's illegal to smoke in most company vehicles as it's classed under the workplace no smoking rules.

If the van counts as a workplace the courier company absolutely can tell drivers not to smoke in them.

You should always complain to the company that sold you the item. They are responsible for ensuring the item reaches you in good condition. I would ask for a replacement that doesn't smell of smoke; it is up to the selling company whether they want to complain to the courier - it is not your problem.

AudiobookListener · 09/12/2024 16:50

Are you sure it's smoke? I think a lot of plastic bags smell rather smokey. Any chance it could be that?

I don't think so, same plastic bags as the other half of the order
I've took everything out and sniffed it and it stinks

We once had this with wedding invitations from a printing service. They absolutely stank of cigarettes. When I complained they were most apologetic and reprinted them all. The second batch were fine thankfully.

I assume people who smoke don't realise how much the smell permeates everything.

It's funny because even my hairdresser didn't know I smoked but this smells like he's either smoked in the van or the parcels have been inside a smokers house

The delivery company have just sent an automated feedback form so filled that in

But not in self employed contractors vehicles which covers a good percentage of couriers.

fivebyfivebuffy · 09/12/2024 16:58

It was his own car, not a branded van

Not most parcel delivery companies like Hermes, DPD, Parcelforce, etc, though.

Evri and Amazon flex use self employed couriers. And Hermes local couriers are all self employed

fivebyfivebuffy · 09/12/2024 17:19

It was yodel
