2002 v now

When I graduated in 2002 a decent salary on a much sought after graduate scheme was about £20k. A 2 bed flat would cost around £90k in zone 4/5

Within 12 / 18 months of starting the scheme, anyone who wanted to buy a house / flat was able to purchase one.

I looked at comparables now: average graduate salaries are £30k - plus crushing debt - and the flats that cost £90k now sell for £400k.

I get really annoyed when people say, “well, i moved out at 21.” It’s not the same.

Wages have not kept pace with rising costs. It's horrible but it's life now.

I agree. Everyone I know who is my age and owns their own house had help and lived with their parents for a long time so they could save.
