I start this post by saying I’m no genius, I don’t profess to know anything. However, the stupidity of some people seems to know no bounds.
The example that prompted this post - a local history Facebook group posted some black and white photographs of a “long removed” memorial to the troops who lost their life in the Crimean War. A pretty magnificent monument, with a large statue on top.
Cue dozens upon dozens of posts about how it’s removal is typical of the woke left and their campaign to destroy British history.
However, the memorial was removed by the council in the 1950s for road widening. It was removed to a local park until very recently when the statue was taken into storage for repair work (that the council can’t currently afford).
Even when this was pointed out, the comments continued, some changing their tack to the reason for the council needing to repair it is their prioritisation of spending on work issues over historic monuments.
Why double down when you’ve made a mistake?
