He clearly loves the kids but he doesn’t seem to give her much notice. Or is it just me?

I wondered that too!! They seem to have a very business-like and very formal relationship!! However, they both seem like it (though he is on another level!!)

Sloworfast · 08/12/2024 00:16

You wonder if he would ever be actually genuinely pleased to see anyone

I thought he seemed delighted by her and his children. I found it a fascinating show. Seeing the human in someone who holds very opposing views to me.

MrsHemswoth · 08/12/2024 00:17

I know it's always being trotted out these days but my initial thoughts when I started watching were that they both have some sort of ASD, especially him. There were hardly any natural facial expressions or genuine smiles or laughs . Low empathy and rituals, seem to dislike change too perhaps? I'm really not a fan of his but I found it a fascinating watch

Sloworfast · 08/12/2024 00:19

@AgathaMystery his children absolutely. It was more her I was thinking he didn’t seem to care much for.

I really warmed to his wife by then end of it all

KittenPause · 08/12/2024 00:19

They're both so similar and well suited so therefore lucky to have fallen for each other

There someone for everyone

Sloworfast · 08/12/2024 00:20

@MrsHemswoth cos she put up with him?

I haven’t seen this, but surely the idea of the Haunted Pencil coming home to smooch his wife on the ancestral sofa and suggesting they nip upstairs for a quickie and give little Sixtus a baby brother or sister would give anyone the herbie-jeebies. He’d be the type to do weird baby-language sex talk and probably have a pet name for his penis. Like Peterkin or the Honorable Member.

Yeah, I'm with you. I can't bring myself to watch it either 😁

Oh I hate this. Someone’s unlikeable? Must be autistic.
I’m autistic and there’s plenty of smiles, laughs and empathy in my house thanks. And “some sort of ASD”? There’s just the one!

He’s a nasty snobby fake toff, who whilst in power was keen to inflict damage on the vulnerable. I for one am not interested in any attempt to rehabilitate his image into someone old fashioned but lovable. The family are doing this so they can get further lucrative work off the back of it.

Indeed. His voting record is repellent. Though the motivation for the tv show is interesting, given that he’s rich and she’s set to inherit a family inheritance of about £150 million — I don’t think it’s for the cash.

Haven't got the channels to watch the programme but what fascinates me about J R-M is that given his views, his background and lifestyle, he held very senior positions in government. This was up to and including the third decade of the 21st century. Of course, he owed this to Boris (who is himself quite odd) and ultimately the electorate. I suspect though that the "oh he's such a character, such a good laugh" shtick worked better for Boris than for R-M.
