Newborn

We visited our nans with our 2 week old newborn, which would have been fine however we didn't know until arriving that two other family members were there with their poorly 1 year old coughing and dribbling everywhere. We were obviously in the same room as them and I'm extremely annoyed no one thought to tell us before. Will baby be OK?

This is a wait and see situation.

When did you visit OP? Did anyone hold baby? Hopefully it's been a few days and no one held them, am sure it will be fine. If you have any concerns at all go to your doctor or call 111 over weekend so they can direct you to a service where you can see someone in person.

I don't mean any of the above to sound as scary as it does, fwiw when my second born was 1 day old we were visited by some family members who were very poorly and did hold baby. Just one of those things and thankfully it was fine, but I just mean keep an eye on baby and get any concerns looked at.

Huge congratulations on your arrival!

Your baby will probably be fine even if they get a cold. But it's not what you want so soon and I would be annoyed too in your shoes. You can leave places in this sort of situation, so don't feel compelled to stay if it happe s again.

Is baby breastfeeding? They do usually have good immunity from breastfeeding at that Age. Definitely frustrating no one told you, in future id walk out in a situation like that

Overthebow · 07/12/2024 08:16

They really should have told you, yes children get ill a lot and you do have to just go about your life, but a 2 week old visiting is a different situation and they should have kept their child at home or warned you. Your baby will hopefully be fine, especially if breastfeeding as they can get immunity from you.

Noseybookworm · 07/12/2024 11:14

They shouldn't have brought an ill child to a gathering with a newborn. If you're exclusively breastfeeding, hopefully your immunity will be passed on .

It's hard to know! Poor baby. You can always walk out of a situation like that x
