AIBU to say I'm surprised a healthcare CEO hasn't been assassinated sooner?

Obviously what's happened in America with regard to Brian Thompson is awful but surely it was only a matter of time before someone revolted against their billionaire dollar profits and lack of payouts for individuals who've paid in for years.

Same. Easy to say in hindsight, but if I were in that job I wouldn't be walking around by myself like that.

But using this logic most CEOs would be a target in some form?

Never fear, Musk will be suffocated by his own ego soon!

Pat888 · 05/12/2024 18:47

Yes, I'm surprised (except they prob have loads of security) that shooters don't take out Musk or some other similar multi trilionaire rather than go for school kids - if you want to go out in a blaze shoot someone famous.

claratheskivvy · 05/12/2024 18:54

When I'm at a loose end I often think about how the world situation might be improved if some people 'disappeared'. Putin, Kim Jong Un, Trump, Musk, Taliban leaders, Netanyahu etc. I then have to research who else is a problem, but whom I haven't actually heard of. By the time I've finished, I'm down to just family and friends 😂

One would expect some to be more a target than others depending on the nature of the work. But yes, it's not necessarily limited to those in health insurance.

I don't know a single American who believes that they pay for our healthcare - where did you get that from?

its a common trope on Threads ALL the time. As well as on god knows how many comments on insta - I reckon I’ve seen it at least 20 times.

also take a look at the Reddit sub shitamericanssay

it’s utterly bonkers

Theunamedcat · 05/12/2024 19:04

And today a health care company announced they were stopping paying for anastasia if your operation goes longer than expected

It's like they don't value human life

MrTiddlesTheCat · 05/12/2024 19:12

I hate to say it, but having watched Dopesick, Im very surprised nobody has taken out the Sacklers. They have absolutely destroyed people and families for profit.

You mean Americans think they are paying for the UK's healthcare? I'm American and I've never heard that. Usually these things stem from a misunderstanding but I have no idea what would even be misunderstood to reach that conclusion.

Do you have a source for this?

Illinoise · 05/12/2024 19:14

I agree Op, it’s disgusting the profits made by big pharma in the states. The fentanyl crisis basically came from their greed.

There is very little sympathy online

I'm sure lots of billionaires will be feeling very nervous now.
Not that I am in any way shape or form in favor of vigilanteism but at the same time . . . he really had it coming😬

Shame on you.

Looks like they've had to backtrack. Disgraceful to even try it in the first place

Cellotapedispenser · 05/12/2024 15:41

I like this idea as this might get rid of Elon Musk. And no I wouldn't care if he dropped dead. He's like a bond villain but real, and now potentially interfering in UK politics.

@Cellotapedispenser have you heard his voice double on Radio 4'S Dead Ringers! Very very funny - I would recommend a listen, he has a regular appearance. Half man, half robot.

I absolutely loathe that man for all kinds of reasons. Partly the politics and partly that he got involved with Grimes and I'd bet she is very sorry about that now. At the time when they first dated I felt like shouting 'don't do it!' and then dear god she had her babies with him. God only knows what kind of legal 'settlement' he has enforced there in regards to the children I dread to think. Won't be good terms for her I suspect. Tellingly no marriage, was that him protecting his interests I wonder?

Alltheyearround · 05/12/2024 19:36

I think the reason for the hit will be dodgy business dealings. Money.

I don't especially wish people dead, excepting Putin and Assad and some Taliban - all those who have committed war crimes/genocide.

However, there are some people up to their necks in dodgy dealings. If that's a route you take in life then you must understand the risks of pissing off others likewise dodgy and powerful. Bullets with message words on don't come out of nowhere.

Doesn't mean I'm not sorry for his family, his 2 boys have lost their dad.

ToweringDiscoInferno · 05/12/2024 19:40

I’ll add the Fuck It List by John Niven for another literary take on a similar theme. Guy with terminal cancer goes after a number of figures who have directly or indirectly caused him and his family great harm, increasing in profile. Although a healthcare CEO doesn’t feature, the head of the NRA does…

NordicwithTeen · 05/12/2024 19:43

Agree. I can only imagine how many people in US must be feeling like someone is getting reasonably angry with the right people...

HeddaGarbled · 05/12/2024 19:49

The Americans thinking they pay for our healthcare thing is because they think they are funding all defence spending for Europe and the U.K., thereby allowing us to spend the money we save on free healthcare. I’ve definitely heard that belief stated on YouTube videos by Americans.

That’s it!

I’ve shared a few examples from Reddit on this thread. It’s utterly mad, but they will not understand that we pay for healthcare through taxation and those higher bulk orders mean better negotiated rates.

LoobyDoop2 · 05/12/2024 19:54

I’m quite horrified by the number of people on this thread happily agreeing that people deserve to be murdered because of the- entirely legitimate- industry they work in, and thinking this is some kind of morally righteous stance.

Eetzup · 05/12/2024 19:57

SeatonCarew · 05/12/2024 19:18

Shame on you.

Meh.

Like many others, I'll save my sympathy for the millions of ordinary Americans who've suffered pain, bankruptcy and indeed death due to the appalling, immoral practices of healthcare insurance companies.

That man got insanely rich on the back of other people's misery.
