How to look like I’ve not forgotten to get him a birthday gift! 🎁

It was my brothers birthday at the end of last month. I text him but he was on holiday so I didn’t sort his gift etc out as I’ve been super busy with work/life etc.

I said I had a card and gift for him, but he’s coming over tomorrow morning and I’ve not sorted the gift. I will get him some sweets as he likes liquorice and marzipan, but how can I sort a gift now! I don’t want to do a gift card as it will show when I bought it.

he won’t care one bit, but I do! I could print a voucher that says I will babysit, but him and his wife got me a nice treatment for my birthday so feel I need to reciprocate. Problem is, he has everything and doesn’t really go out much as he travels.

any ideas 🫣🥴

Should have said, I just don’t want to spend money on pointless tat for the sake of it!

Buy a gift experience?

8weekscrossed · 04/12/2024 21:46

@Brieandcamembert ove had one before but there are so many exclusions. I was thinking of a voucher where I babysit and they can go for dinner, but I know that won’t be cheap as they will go somewhere fancy! I am on maternity leave so don’t have the money to get a big gift

If you buy something like a voucher that will have tomorrow's date on, you could say you'd bought him a present but you put it in a safe place and now can't find the bloody thing. Tell him you'll find it and re-wrap it for Christmas, so you don't need to say what it is.

Babysitting voucher with money in the envelope for dinner out / cinema tickets

8weekscrossed · 04/12/2024 21:54

Ohh @Loafbeginsat60 i like the idea of a cinema offer

You could probably get a cinema voucher and print it off - buy a bag of popcorn and pick n mix!

I’ve looked and I don’t think there will be a lot on they will be interested in, so will opt for a meal or another activity that they can do while I babysit.

Genius!!

What about edibles?
A large cheese plater and wines or a section of speciality cakes nicely wrapped up?

What??

The topic is How to look like I’ve not forgotten to get him a birthday gift! not How to make him want to vomit.

It says in the OP that he likes liquorice!

It’s his birthday not Christmas. That’s just rude saying you’ve bought something for a birthday, can’t find it but will wrap it for a Christmas.

Pop to supermarket. Buy a gift card for cinema, gift card for restaurant ( don't need to give receipt, just write value on card). Put it in a box with popcorn, wine etc and a homemade babysitting voucher!

If you have enough photos of him, you can make a Birthday collage or a birthday slideshow with them as a small addition to your gift and say your laptop wasn't working hence why you didn't send it earlier. Cinema vouchers and a nice basket of edibles would make a great main gift imo.
