Will I get sick? (Raw meat)

I’m in CBT atm for severe emetophobia so this is pretty much my worst nightmare.

I was making bacon sandwiches at my parents house (Tesco; unsmoked) and in the busyness/chaos I accidentally used the fork I’d been using to put raw bacon into the pan, to cut fat off my cooked bacon and cut my sandwich in half. Also popped a piece into my mouth with it.
I realised and spat most of my mouthful out but definitely swallowed a little and it was in my mouth.

My brother laughed and then ate the rest of my sandwich whilst I mentally imploded!

please be kind

Fellow emetophobe here - you'll be absolutely fine! I understand the worry though!

coffeesaveslives · 04/12/2024 16:13

You won't get sick.

Ohthatsabitshit · 04/12/2024 16:14

You’ll be fine.

lakesiders · 04/12/2024 16:19

You'll be fine. We used to eat raw bacon fat as kids. Still do sometime now.

Annabella92 · 04/12/2024 16:20

You'll really be OK.

cookingthebooks · 04/12/2024 16:21

Oh god this is making me feel a bit better thank you!

I literally spat it out as soon as I realised but that fork had been in my mouth. All I can think about is salmonella or ecoli breeding inside me!

Gosh absolutely no problem at all! Bacon is cured and won't be dangerous.

despairnow · 04/12/2024 16:31

Bacon is totally gross imo but In terms of sickness I don't see it as a big issue.

cookingthebooks · 04/12/2024 16:42

I used to raw sausages as a child. You’ll be fine, it was just some fork pork juice.

cookingthebooks · 04/12/2024 16:47

Thank you!

My emetophobia is debilitating. I hate this about myself would give anything to sort my head out

It’s a cured meat. You’re 100% fine.

Comtesse · 04/12/2024 17:15

Ahh don’t panic you will be ok.

Disturbia81 · 04/12/2024 17:24

I used to love raw bacon 😆

Tillow4ever · 04/12/2024 17:27

Definitely fine. I hope the CBT helps because it must be awful to be worried like this all the time.

Coconutter24 · 04/12/2024 17:27

What time did this happen? I’d phone my brother if it was earlier in the day see how he is, if he’s fine your definitely fine 🙂

cookingthebooks · 04/12/2024 18:19

Oh my brother is fine, no issues but I feel super sick. Suspect anxiety is contributing

teatoast8 · 04/12/2024 18:45

You'll be fine

Gennr · 04/12/2024 18:49

@cookingthebooks i worry about this sort of thing. I’ve actually done that a few times with bacon and I have a very delicate stomach! Always been fine 👍

cookingthebooks · 05/12/2024 09:55

Feel super sick but not actually been unwell yet. Suspect anxiety is playing a part in the nausea. Fighting the urge to completely stop eating.

Just watch literally any chef on TV and you'll see you have nothing to worry about.

Matt Tebutt on Saturday Kitchen cuts up all sorts of meat then basically walks over to the sink and tickles the surface of the (presumably cold) water with his fingertips, wipes them on a tea towel then carries on. Be surprised if the water even reached his cuticles. Certainly no soap!
