The teacher from Batley is still in hiding

Teacher Batley
His life ruined because a bunch of thugs decided they didn't like what he was teaching in his RE lesson.
This and the Labour MP's request for bhalsphey laws against those of the Abrahamic faith have made me concerned.

People should be free to offer an view against another's religion. It's scary that we are being a country where people thing being offended gives them a right to made death threats.

Batley Grammar School teacher felt “totally isolated” “abandoned” and “suicidal” due to inadequate support from relevant agencies.

An official review, due to be published on Monday 25th March, 2024, is set to recommend the banning of protests outside schools, following a concerning incident where a teacher was forced into hidi…

Are images of the pope, jesus, god, talking bush, or the tree you describe considered a crime in the view of Christians. No.
In the case of many muslims an image of muhammed is.

As I understand it this was a group of circa 15 year olds so still within the control of parents. Had it been university/college level and discussing philosophy your argument would have merit. A group of young teenagers in a majority muslim area, pretty poor thinking on whoever ok'd it.

Actually blasphemous pictures of the Pope are not acceptable and very offensive to Catholics along with those of Jesus to Practicing Christians

Do you think Christians are happy about that…..really! Is it just Muslims that are allowed to be offended, I think you’ll find there is nothing so special about one religion over another.
The difference is I understand the purpose of the lesson. To explain blasphemy. Therefore presenting a picture makes sense ie to show what blasphemy is.

What I wouldn’t do and clearly Christians didn’t do is automatically get a gang of people around to surround a teachers house, scare him and his family, send death threats and ultimately terrify the life out of someone who is teaching a class a very important issue.

You think these people were aware the lesson was coming and deliberately let their kids attend?

Any evidence?

Those children could be taught the same lesson without the image of muhammed. It would likey have more effect had the images they recognised been shown and the muslim one missed with explanation why.

We want to be treated equally.

No, no, not this. Treat us differently with this!!!!

You could not make it up.

Although I was brought up church of scotland I attended a catholic school and can safely say that nobody considered images of the pope or jesus offensive. In fact his picture was all around my school.

StandingSideBySide · 04/12/2024 02:20

We have to all live together within this countries law.
There are no special laws for certain religions
There should be no ‘get out clauses’ for certain people

We live equally or we just won’t be able to live together at all.

I would expect as a result of this report that should anything ever happen again that results in threatening behaviour and death threats by any religious group the police will act accordingly and detain and charge those committing the offence.

Someone should tell that to the Vatican. The official Vatican gift shop sells a rosary with the Pope’s image on it.

I didn’t say it was racist, I said Muslims were singled out. As far as I can tell only Mohammed was shown with a bomb in his head, not the Pope or Jesus.

You sent a link 🤣🤣🤣
Catholics have always had images of Saints and Popes.
Don't you know anything about the difference between Catholics and Protestants it’s forms the entire history of the beginnings of the Church of England and the Reformation……British history!

A blasphemous image in Catholicism is not an image of the Pope it’s a blasphemous one. Like The pope holding a bomb or with a clown suit on.

I can’t believe you felt the need to send a link

Edited

Don't worry the link took me 5 seconds 😂

Oh oh you mean Pope with bomb images, that wasn’t clear before.

Can you not see why Muslims may feel singled out if the school show a caricature of Mohammed but not the Pope?

Not non-blasphemous pictures.

Hope that helps.

As far as you know
Stop deflating the fact that other religions were also part of the class
All of Christianity and Catholics.
You can’t dismiss out of hand what you don’t know when logically it’s obvious all the images were blasphemous.
