MIL isnt particularly a nice person tends to stop speaking or go low contact if doesn’t get her way. Won’t talk about about what bothering but will make sly comments. Essentially if something happens that she doesn’t like BIL (married to her daughter) or I get the blame and repercussions. This maybe as simple we have seen my family.
I still aim to be better person ie messaging to make sure she and FIL are ok making an effort to make we see them as I know she loves to see her son, inviting them round etc

i can’t bring myself to be unpleasant or lower myself to that level. However for my own mental health I need to. How to I change that part of my personality

fed up of been taken advantage of

It might help you to reflect on what has made you such a people pleaser?

I wouldn’t bother contacting them at all. Leave it to DH. Avoid them as much as humanly possible. So what if they act up?
