Went to a “Family Christmas Concert” at a concert hall in our city this morning. We’ve been before and all welcome, lots of babies and toddlers, prob more kids than adults overall. So a certain amount of low level disruption is surely expected and tolerated. All fine so far.
However the family next to us had a kid who was I’d guess about 3, he was well behaved generally however the parents thought it was appropriate to bring a really noisy and flashing light toy along with him which he played with constantly until my DH politely had words with the mum during the interval. Basically we couldn’t enjoy the music at all because there was a really noisy flash rattly thing going the whole time. The mum was most offended by my dh, her words were “but it’s a children’s concert”. Yes it is but doesn’t mean you have free reign to bring really noisy disruptive toys along does it?
anyway I’m quite old fashioned about this sort of thing, I think in this sort of concert if your child doesn’t behave impeccably then that is ok but the onus is surely on the parent to make sure that kids sit, listen and watch quietly where possible. But perhaps I’m unreasonable and out of date.
Yabu - fine to bring noisy toys to a “family”Christmas concert
Yanbu - it was appropriate for dh to have a word
