Marionette Lines Getting me down

meelee20119 · 29/11/2024 17:02

Hi

I have good skin overall but have quite bad nasal/marionette lines, it’s really getting me down. My husband doesn’t understand and I know he still finds me attractive but all I can focus on is these lines, especially the marionette ones. I am 52 and can’t have injections because I have a really bad phobia of needles. I have read that face yoga can help?
I feel bad that I am allowing this to take over my life especially as I have a wonderful family and beautiful grandchildren and yet everyday I focus on these lines and as a result am miserable

Please give me some words or wisdom or advise.

Mine are more prominent when I gain weight. If I lose weight in my face they are not so noticeable as the skin is not so droopy.

I would have thought the opposite- no wrinkles on a balloon as they say, whereas when you lose weight the skin gets thinner and sags. You must be the exception to the rule!

Jaehee · 30/11/2024 18:22

Nothing screams old age more than naso/labial and marionette lines

To you maybe. I think most people wouldn't notice it. I know lots of women in their 50s and 60s and couldn't tell you whether a single one of them had marionette lines.

Fillers 👌

😆

notgoingtoplan24 · 30/11/2024 18:34

Sofwave is supposed to tighten skin and improve the lines. Haven't tried it though.

but filler does a really good job and really only need a little once every two years or so if you get over your fear

Totally agree with this. I have a marionette line on one side that is so deep it looks like a scar. Tiny bit of filler every 18 months sorts it!

Filler scares me.There are so many horror stories. Also I previously watched Dr Amir Karam on YouTube and he strongly advises again lower face filler over the age of 50 stating it can and does migrate and you look worse.
If nothing natural exists that I’ll have to accept it 😞 I fully understand everyone who has had filler and is happy with the results raving about it but what about all the horror story people.

It's all about the practitioner. If you get it done at the local hairdressers then yes you probably are running a risk. I spent a long time researching practitioners before I had it done and the person I used is a medic first and a beauty specialist second

sHREDDIES19 · 30/11/2024 18:48

Actually facial exercise does work BUT you have to commit. Just like exercising your body, you half arse it, you won’t get the results. It makes sense as our face is full of muscles and stimulating and working these helps us look more brighter and softer. By all means if you are brave enough try injectables but although they do have great results short term, the longer term prognosis isn’t great. Botox weakens the muscles as they are effectively frozen and over time you need it more frequently to achieve the desired effect. I also wonder what 20/30 years use will look like as there are so many people doing this in their 20s, it’s unreal!

MillyMichaelson · 30/11/2024 18:49

I honestly do wonder about the people who come on these threads to tell the OP to stop being silly.

How impactful do you think that is, versus just being really irritating?

Errors · 30/11/2024 18:51

I’m about ten years younger than you OP. I started to notice these lines too, the very beginning of them and they are worse on one side. I’m currently 4 weeks after my second profhilo treatment and after initially feeling disappointed that it hadn’t worked, I feel like I am starting to watch my face life back up again and the biggest effects haven’t come yet.
It does take a needle though I am afraid, 5 injections on each side of your face but it’s not like filler or Botox. It doesn’t leave you looking ‘done’

Errors · 30/11/2024 18:51

I also have a nuface mini and can recommend

MadKittenWoman · 30/11/2024 18:58

I was the same. I now have hyaluronic acid fillers which completely eradicates my naso-labial and marrionette lines. I have it mainly in my cheeks to lift the lower face then some in the lines to perfect them. Looks completely natural.I've also just had a bit of Botox in the corners of my mouth to help stop them turning down. Creams and serums can help the quality of your skin and fine lines, but they do absolutely nothing to replace lost volume which causes these folds. I know you say you have a needle phobia, but if you can somehow get over this you won't be disappointed. Flowers

mrstumbler · 30/11/2024 18:59

Watching ! I brought my mom fillers (found her the therapist and transferred the money) for her birthday (she is 64) specifically marionette lines and a tiny bit above her top lips and she looked great ! Nothing noticeable, just brighter if that makes sense ? Smoother and fresher, and she said it didn't hurt, we do say she is solid though 😆

Bignanna · 30/11/2024 19:00

OP just try having 1 ml of filler and I think you will be delighted with the result. You may only need this once a year.
The profhilo injections sound interesting, so I might look into that myself. Home gadgets won’t really do much. They may make a bit of difference if used regularly over a long time.

Do tell me the secret of your eternally youthful skin! Never seen an old lady without them. It would be impossible to get to that age and not have them to some degree. Can you post a photo of that area?

No need to be unpleasant. My skin is good, but you can have lovely skin and marionette lines. I put it down to genetics and olive oil in my diet, plus good bone structure. I have no idea why women on MN go on about marionette lines and assume they are perhaps too thin for their forties and fifties and/or miserable.

Agree with this. Nuface is great, as are HydraFacials. Also, an LED mask will help.

I have a NuFace and it has done wonders for my jaw line and hooded eyes which I was considering surgery on before. You can use on marionette lines too and the mini plus is currently on sale on look fantastic with the gels
it has made me feel so much better about my appearance, best buy of 2024.

thesilvermoon · 30/11/2024 23:25

Actually, I just looked up marionette lines and realise I was calling nasolabial folds marionette lines. Don't have either.

lto2019 · 30/11/2024 23:51

I had filler - the injections were relatively painless - and although they have worn off now - they have never gone back to being how they were before. I know how you feel - I felt like they made me look miserable when I wasn't. Since then I have found micro needling and skin taping to help -but the filler had the biggest effect.

sweetpeaorchestra · 01/12/2024 01:42

Following as I am so self conscious of mine. I genuinely have deeper lines there than women 10 years older than me due to my face structure etc.
my five year old asked me what was around my mouth the the other day, it must be that prominent/incongrous.

am up for any treatment! I always believed “you either look old or weird” but now I’m 40 I’d rather look a bit weird (only as mine make me look 50! Was told fillers wouldn’t work for me there but hopefully something will

Not being unpleasant- just realistic!

yup...Ashley looks plastic-ey and uncanny valley and reading what surgical procedures she's had done and what maintenance work she does every month is bloody awful

HotSlippergirl · 01/12/2024 17:51

This sounds like body dysmorphia. You’d be better off spending money on addressing why you’re fixating on this than lining the pockets of cosmetics companies who conduct zero clinical trials to back up their claims

This. Its an obsession. Please don't go on the skincare facebook groups. I was on one and its really sad how utterly hyper focussed the women there have become on the slightest sign of ageing. The more you analyse your face in minute detail, the more defect you see and the more miserable you will become. The skincare industry must be delighted. They have a customer base that can never be satiated as they will continue to age.

Jaehee · 01/12/2024 17:55

In 1990 the cosmetics industry was worth about $30bn. Now it’s worth $500bn and the list of things about our appearance we’re encouraged to worry about just grows and grows.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 01/12/2024 18:29

I had these. I couldn't bear the way they made me look miserable. I got fillers and never looked back. I top them up every year.

No matter how much you look after your skin, it won't make any difference if your bone structure is predisposed to it.

Christmaseason · 01/12/2024 18:33

Is your needle phobia really bad because filler would sort them out?

pandapopadance · 01/12/2024 18:41

Fillers or mini facelift will help. Look at radio frequency too. It tightens the skin. Morpheus 8 is one type that is well known.
