Marionette Lines Getting me down

meelee20119 · 29/11/2024 17:02

Hi

I have good skin overall but have quite bad nasal/marionette lines, it’s really getting me down. My husband doesn’t understand and I know he still finds me attractive but all I can focus on is these lines, especially the marionette ones. I am 52 and can’t have injections because I have a really bad phobia of needles. I have read that face yoga can help?
I feel bad that I am allowing this to take over my life especially as I have a wonderful family and beautiful grandchildren and yet everyday I focus on these lines and as a result am miserable

Please give me some words or wisdom or advise.

The only thing that works is injectables. I'm 53, had the same issue and have botox/filler/senecos.

It's over in 10 mins and is very impactful.

Anything else is a waste of money.

You can blur them temporarily with make up like beauty blur from Trinny.

We all age differently. You might get them in the future.

Am ancient. No sign of them. No relatives had them, either, even at 90.

I'm 47 and I've never even heard of 'marionette lines' - sounds like another thing given a name just to shame women for ageing.

Barney16 · 30/11/2024 13:19

Filler will sort them out, but I know you said you don't like needles. I'm not sure that anything else would really work.

They've been a thing forever! Only lines that age people imo.

Itiswhysofew · 30/11/2024 13:24

No, face yoga does not make any difference, in my experience.

I was always told that I looked young for my age. I've done facial exercises for many years, but now look my age, if not older. I do think about having botox, but I wouldn't know who to got to.

Doliveira · 30/11/2024 13:30

I think if you can’t stop thinking about them, you are probably suffering from an anxiety that is channeled into self criticism.

Iloveeverycat · 30/11/2024 13:35

Mine are more prominent when I gain weight. If I lose weight in my face they are not so noticeable as the skin is not so droopy.

usernother · 30/11/2024 13:49

OP I think at 52 no creams or yoga or tape will make any difference. The only thing would be to find somewhere that can sedate you before having filler, or to go further with lower a face lift. Sorry.

Mine look better when my face is fatter.

This sounds like body dysmorphia. You’d be better off spending money on addressing why you’re fixating on this than lining the pockets of cosmetics companies who conduct zero clinical trials to back up their claims.

This is not helpful.

Why do you say that’s not helpful?

QueenBitch666 · 30/11/2024 14:18

Fillers 👌

StepCombatAttack · 30/11/2024 14:59

It might sound a bit trite but honestly fillers have changed my life. I used to feel so down about how I looked, but now I have cheekbones again and that has lifted my whole face up. I feel great and have so much more confidence, which in turn affects how I relate to people, how I dress and what I do.
My therapist uses numbing cream and I barely feel it. Twice at year job.
Only a face lift or fillers will do the job OP. Creams are a waste.

Lifelover16 · 30/11/2024 15:04

If skincare creams and potions actually did what they promised no one would ever need botox or fillers etc.
Id say save your skincare money and see a medically qualified aesthetics practitioner

My goodness! Whatever is wrong with ageing gracefully? This kind of nonsense just reinforces all the prejudices against women over 50. Grrr…

meelee20119 · 30/11/2024 16:15

Thank you to everyone who replied.
I am interested in the Nuface or Foreo Bear recommendations however a quick YouTube search I found the Doctorly video which states they dont work.
Can I ask for peoples experiences of these or red ligh masks?

No amount of lights or potions is going to reverse MLs

filler or mini facelift

Mercurial123 · 30/11/2024 17:35

I have an LED mask it's improved my skin tone. It has done nothing for my nasolabial folds, but I didn't expect it to. Sorry, OP, it's either a choice of filler, face lift, or learning to live with them.

meelee20119 · 30/11/2024 17:45

Filler scares me.There are so many horror stories. Also I previously watched Dr Amir Karam on YouTube and he strongly advises again lower face filler over the age of 50 stating it can and does migrate and you look worse.
If nothing natural exists that I’ll have to accept it 😞 I fully understand everyone who has had filler and is happy with the results raving about it but what about all the horror story people.

Thank you, I will have a look at the those.
I was using the Roc Retinol capsules but when I ran out it was Black Friday on Amazon so seen an offer on the Elizabeth Arden Retinol + Ceramide capsules and decided to try them. I’ve been using them for 90 days but feel that that haven’t really done much.
I felt the Roc worked initially well my husband said it did I hate but then seemed to Plateau after only 6 months and supposedly Roc claim that the results will keep getting better and not plateau!

I wish I could stop making this the main focus, seriously it is making me depressed. My husband doesn’t understand he just says you look good and that I have so many other things in life to focus on and be grateful for and I know he’s right ( not about the looking good part) but I can’t help it.

You could try skin patches eg frownies, ( lots on Amazon) but they need to be used consistently. As you age your skin sags in this area, and unless you have surgery there’s not much you can do. From experience, fillers are your best bet. Anaesthetic cream is applied first, so you’ll hardy feel the needle. If they’re very bad, they can inject your cheeks instead of the actual lines, and this has a lifting effect. Face exercises won’t do much. Tretinoin cream will help to minimise them but it will take months before you see a difference. Ageing sucks, doesn’t it!

MillyMichaelson · 30/11/2024 17:59

I absolutely hated mine, and thought about fillers for about a year. I had it done recently, and I absolutely love it; it doesn't look like I've had anything done, it's just slightly lifted the skin so my make up doesn't sit in it now, etc.

Honestly it couldn't have been less sore - plus they put numbing cream on first, but really, it was a complete non-event, and no bruising either.

Do tell me the secret of your eternally youthful skin! Never seen an old lady without them. It would be impossible to get to that age and not have them to some degree. Can you post a photo of that area?

Unfortunately ageing gracefully is an oxymoron. There’s nothing graceful about about it! Nothing screams old age more than naso/labial and marionette lines, so I don’t blame people for seeking a solution to diminish them.
