Hi, I am currently waiting in the pharmacy for sertraline. It’ll be my first time I’ve ever been on medication for my depression and anxiety. I’m going on holiday on
Monday, a holiday I’ve waited over a year for a paid a fortune for. Would it be wise to start the meds once I am back? I’ve heard the side effects can be quite bad at first. I should be mentally quite ok on holiday anyway it’s my life at home I’m not coping well with.

I don’t think you’re being unreasonable at all - as long as you’re sure you’ll be able to cope until then - because side effects can be quite common with them. Maybe take them with you so you have the option to start them if needed? I hope you have a wonderful holiday OP! X

I would wait until you get back, I felt ropey for the first week or two but then everything settled down. I'm glad I stuck at them though because they have made a big difference to my life.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

They take a while to work so you won’t experience any improvement in your symptoms on holiday. I think it would be very reasonable to start when you get home in case you have side effects and need to rest or consult your own GP.
