Yelled at the Yodel collection point

The guys in the corner shop have always been rude - to the extent that it almost seems like a joke. They're particularly pissed off about Yodel parcel collection and drop off, a service which they offer. I usually try to buy something as well as doing parcel stuff (I'm in there about once a week for Yodel), but it seems to make no odds.
And then today... I just got so pissed off with the attitude from the two together, they made me wait behind other people despite me being first, because I was collecting a parcel. I then asked them if they didn't like doing Yodel, as I was genuinely curious 🙈 And one bloke started raising his voice and telling me how shit it was, that I had told him the wrong day I got the text re. collection (I didn't!), they have a system... he was really yelling, so after saying ' please stop shouting' to him which made it worse, I then stupidly shouted back that he is incredibly rude, I hate using his shop, and he's a dickhead. 😬 Really smooth. He then said I was banned.
I feel like a grade A plonker for losing it like that, but also strangely good for letting loose after being treated like shit forever.
Am I actually banned? 🙊 Is using a shop's parcel service cheeky? I'm all over the place, as the shouting was actually really horrible! (Mine included.)

I've turned Yodel off on Vinted as there's a right pair of sour-faced witches behind the till in my local store too. They've always got some excuse why they can't take the parcel - label printer is broken, driver hasn't left any collection sacks, don't know how to use the parcel scanner. I usually end up having to go back 2-3 times before they'll take the parcel.
I just use InPost now or only get Yodel parcels delivered to my home.

Delphiniumandlupins · 29/11/2024 13:14

My daughter often leaves parcels for me to take to our local shop because they're much nicer than hers. Maybe it's all a hassle for the shops - Yodel locally keep delivering parcels to the wrong shops!

This has made me laugh 😂.

You are my absolute hero for shouting back at them .
I myself have had to slink away to another retailer ,after years of buying overpriced crap I didn't want ,in a desperate attempt to appease a surly shopkeeper who deigned to accept my parcels .
It ended badly when I snapped ,wrestled my parcel from his greasy hands and swept out the door saying "I won't be back " in my calmest poshest voice!

Parcel rage is real !

This is fantastic. PMSL.

Falseshamrok · 29/11/2024 13:18

I say well done you!

johnd2 · 29/11/2024 13:50

Firstly all those who buy stuff they don't need just because they're picking up a parcel need to think about why they feel that way. There's absolutely no need and it's not really good for anyone!
And secondly I wonder if evri pays them per parcel and maybe even a target bonus so they like the business, and Yodel pays a flat amount, so they prefer no one turns up? That might explain the different attitudes!

severyyhv · 29/11/2024 13:54

I never had any one be rude but I agree staff seem to hate doing it.

Surely shops are getting paid for facilitating the service?

MuchLess · 29/11/2024 13:58

I don’t use our yodel shop in London as the boss is really scary and unpleasant. Or I go in the evening with the younger people are serving. If they don’t want to provide the service they should not offer it.

ETA our Evri shop is fine.

Why isn't it 'good' for anyone? Surely it is good for the owner of the shop? Genuine question.

One of ours is nice and friendly but another one is rude and difficult. My 17 year old son went to collect a package from miserable one and he was told no as it was 5 and they didn't do collection past five. I went for him after work at 7 and was given the parcel, not with a smile but still.

See what you mean, i was thinking in a way that it's inefficient then getting in stock that people don't want and it'd be better if they negotiated a better contract with yodel or whoever and got a fair price for the actual service. Or charged people 50p for a pickup. Better than sending tat to landfill.
So not really on a direct customer by customer basis, but more generally.

Playdoughcaterpillar · 29/11/2024 15:40

Just use the in post lockers and then you don't even have to deal with any people

Oh yes, indeed, I see what you mean and I suppose if chocolate and sweets are being purchased out of pity, the health of the nation is worsened.

I agree, they need to renegotiate a better contract with Yodel.

BoneTiredandWired · 29/11/2024 18:36

I'm sort of comforted to hear that others have experienced similar shit 🙈 But also sorry!
My Evri guy at the coop is the loveliest at least - so now it's Evri all the way. (Until their label printer breaks again...)

I'm pretty sure the shouting guy is the boss 😬
After it happened, I actually changed my Vinted profile to exclude Yodel.

I wouldn't do that, they might only get Yodel now but they can change (my local corner shop gets yodel, evri, InPost and DPD).
You can still use yodel and find another shop to pick up from.

Must be something in the air I had a massive row with our yodel shop yesterday as he told
me I had to "do it his way" and write address on my parcels...... after explaining that I have no details as it's vinted he got stroppy and rude and turned off his yodel machine!

Turned yodel off vinted as soon as I got home too!

Now I have a thick skin but the way he spoke to me was appalling I'll never use yodel again!!

ohtowinthelottery · 29/11/2024 19:02

I don't use shops where the staff are rude. In one of our village shops, the owner called me mate (female late 50's to his 30 something). I was most definitely not his 'mate '. He was also permanently attached to his phone whilst serving customers. Don't go in there any more. I'm usually home for parcels, thankfully as the shop is the Evri drop off/pick up point.

Ryeman · 29/11/2024 19:07

Well done OP. I can never understand people who work in customer facing roles who clearly just don’t like people. I’ve stopped using one shop for evri because they can never find my parcels and always made me feel really awkward. YANBU

hopelessbusiness · 29/11/2024 19:12

@callmebuffy how do you change your vinted profile? I've been wanting to edit mine for ages but can't see how to do it!

Actually, the next nearest Yodel point has just stopped doing parcels I was informed very recently! They seemed similarly fucked off about the process, but much nicer. When you've got 2 small kids, trekking much further is quite a thought, so think I'll stick with switching Yodel off for now. Part of me does want to complain actually

What that makes zero sense why would it the same shop ?

Such an interesting response

All these "fucked off " people you seem to be the common denominator,
My comment was at ten am
Why you still banging on about your non event?!

hopelessbusiness · 29/11/2024 21:14

@BoneTiredandWired how do I edit my vinted profile to only accept certain delivery options?
I'd rather use evri due to my location but can't see how to delete other carriers!

thorneyislanddoris · 29/11/2024 21:31

The lady at our local shop is the same. Extremely rude and dismissive. Like you, I tried to buy something as well as the parcel business but she was still was rude. Often talking on her phone and ignoring customers.

She's infamous on our local facebook page. She's rude to everyone it seems. I'm surprised she still has a business!

I go elsewhere now.

abracadabra1980 · 29/11/2024 22:13

Genuine question? Do they get commission for providing the parcel services?
