Yelled at the Yodel collection point

The guys in the corner shop have always been rude - to the extent that it almost seems like a joke. They're particularly pissed off about Yodel parcel collection and drop off, a service which they offer. I usually try to buy something as well as doing parcel stuff (I'm in there about once a week for Yodel), but it seems to make no odds.
And then today... I just got so pissed off with the attitude from the two together, they made me wait behind other people despite me being first, because I was collecting a parcel. I then asked them if they didn't like doing Yodel, as I was genuinely curious 🙈 And one bloke started raising his voice and telling me how shit it was, that I had told him the wrong day I got the text re. collection (I didn't!), they have a system... he was really yelling, so after saying ' please stop shouting' to him which made it worse, I then stupidly shouted back that he is incredibly rude, I hate using his shop, and he's a dickhead. 😬 Really smooth. He then said I was banned.
I feel like a grade A plonker for losing it like that, but also strangely good for letting loose after being treated like shit forever.
Am I actually banned? 🙊 Is using a shop's parcel service cheeky? I'm all over the place, as the shouting was actually really horrible! (Mine included.)

Report them to Yodel or make a complaint to yodel

VyeBrator · 29/11/2024 10:41

BoneTiredandWired · 29/11/2024 10:24

Well... He is quite irrational I think. If I went in there and bought some of the massively overpriced vapes or sweets on offer, I don't think he'd turn me away. But who knows!

Edited

Well make sure you don't.

You'll only humiliate yourself if you go back in there, and they tell you to get out.

BoneTiredandWired · 29/11/2024 10:42

@ZippyLilacStork Because it's handy, it's on the school run, it's the closest point by a long way. I've always been almost fascinated by the rudeness

I did get my parcel! Rude man 2 handed it over while berating me that I'd told him the wrong day or something

I would make a formal complaint to yodel that the service is rubbish etc. then find another shop to collect from.

Ivyn · 29/11/2024 10:52

I had a bad experience returning something to amazon at my local garage. The woman working there obviously hated having to deal with parcels and has absolutely vile to me from the moment I walked in.
I actually cried in my car afterwards (which was probably an overreaction, but she was just so angry and rude to me!)
I haven't been back to that garage since.

Letmegohome · 29/11/2024 10:52

When you make your formal complaint don't forget to include all the details including calling him a "dickhead"

ABirdsEyeView · 29/11/2024 10:54

It's not handy though if they are rude arseholes who make you stressed when you deal with them.

Everyone goes on about independent shops being better/having more personalised customer service, but it's not always a guarantee - you do get the 'my business, my rules' kind of owner sometimes. They want the money but not the work involved. You don't tend to get that shit at chains usually.

cantarguewithfools · 29/11/2024 11:03

They shouldn’t offer a service they don’t want to provide. You’re banned now so it doesn’t matter anyway as you can’t go back. No more yodel for you!

I wouldn’t get it delivered there unless you want your parcel to go mysteriously missing. If you need to order parcels via yodel can you put a different name on them and have someone else collect?

BoneTiredandWired · 29/11/2024 11:57

@Letmegohome
You ok..? I haven't mentioned making a complaint

OP posts:
BoneTiredandWired · 29/11/2024 11:59

I really don't think either of these guys should be in a customer facing role, it seems to pain them greatly. (They're just as rude if you buy something.) Anyway. I should let them go from my head.

Letmegohome · 29/11/2024 12:03

@BoneTiredandWired yeah I'm fine thanks for checking?! There are suggestions you do, and if you do you should include all the details

BoneTiredandWired · 29/11/2024 12:07

You told me to include the fact I said he was a dickhead in my non existent complaint. That seemed... strange. But cheers if you're offering genuine suggestions 🙏

This has made me laugh 😂.

You are my absolute hero for shouting back at them .
I myself have had to slink away to another retailer ,after years of buying overpriced crap I didn't want ,in a desperate attempt to appease a surly shopkeeper who deigned to accept my parcels .
It ended badly when I snapped ,wrestled my parcel from his greasy hands and swept out the door saying "I won't be back " in my calmest poshest voice!

Parcel rage is real !

Wendolino · 29/11/2024 12:13

Definitely not a good look to yell in a shop but you had good reason to! He shouldn't have been rude nor shouted at you.

SereneFish · 29/11/2024 12:14

ABirdsEyeView · 29/11/2024 10:00

Let Yodel know - a company should be informed that their agents are behaving like pricks to the customers. And if these guys just work there, rather than morning the shop, I'd let their boss know too!

Pretty sure Yodel require poor customer service in all their agents and employees.

ABirdsEyeView · 29/11/2024 12:25

Yeah, probably right Grin
I guess the best revenge is to not give them any business

mcmooberry · 29/11/2024 12:32

There is a lot of this about, our Yodel/Inpost one is fortunately very nice (and I do buy noodles and sweets when in and even, occasionally, a very overpriced bottle of wine wiping out all Vinted profits for a month. The Evri man would make your heart sink though, I have to send my husband sometimes as I can't face him. I think you were totally in the right here, ridiculous that he is treating customers as the enemy like this.

Dreamskies · 29/11/2024 12:33

Just a pair of aggressive pricks in the wrong job. If you don’t like customers and serving people, don’t go into a customer service job.

I’d absolutely let yodel know what happened. The shop doesn’t have to be part of the scheme, they’re doing it for the coffers. They can’t just abuse people because they don’t like it. What a pair of wankers.

Fannyfiggs · 29/11/2024 12:36

You're not alone. I got barred from my local post office/shop. I told the owner he had a terrible attitude and he ran round the counter and started to square me up 😂 I was about a foot taller than him. I think the icing on the cake was me laughing and saying to him 'what are you gonna do wee man?' He screamed at me to get out and that I was barred 🤣

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 29/11/2024 12:44

Same at my local yodel shop too. If you can even get them to look up from their phones they can't serve you without being rude. Usually they'll say the label printing machine isn't working so they can't serve me. When I point out I've already printed my label (which would be obvious if they looked up from the phone screen), suddenly it's the scanner that isn't working so 🤷🏻‍♀️ can't help. They also don't accept parcels before 9am, after 3pm or on weekends. If they don't want to do yodel then just don't offer the service. Surely it's that simple.

Unfortunately it's the only yodel shop within a 20min drive so I have to sometimes go multiple times before they'll accept it. Vinted buyers prefer yodel so I ended up being pushed into turning the option back on due to repeated requests.

Good on you OP for standing up to them. I wouldn't worry about it, but I wouldn't bother going back in anyway even if they change their mind about the ban.

another1bitestheduck · 29/11/2024 12:48

good for you! At the end of the day they can choose whether they offer the service or not, and if you offer a service do it with good will! It would be completely unreasonable to make people buying fags or whatever go to the back of the queue even if they were there first!

Corner/independent shops moan about people using supermarkets but literally the only two reasons people would use them instead are for convenience and a more interactive customer experience (i.e. you get to know 'your' local shopkeeper) - make it inconvenient for people and behave rudely to them and of course they'll just say fuck it and go to Asda instead.

I try and use inpost wherever possible with the lockers, no need to interact with anyone!

Apolloneuro · 29/11/2024 12:51

I say well done for shouting back, to be honest.

I know what you mean about being almost fascinated by the rudeness, I used to stop at a corner shop across the road from work that was owned by a family. I was absolutely fascinated by the rudeness of the mother, she was so passive aggressive it was funny. I could buy an entire basket of goods and she would still tut when I asked for a carrier bag 🤣 I think she thought I ought to juggle everything home.

2110l · 29/11/2024 12:57

Hmmm

OK the guy is a pain

But you sensed this, so why did you get into it with him? It was very obvious that he was pissed off with Yodel stuff.

Also there is absolutely no need to buy something when you get a parcel. You don't buy things to appease angry shopkeepers, you buy them because you need them!
