It’s pitch black out, I’m convinced my neighbours are going to hate me as my my Hotpoint cooker is arriving at 6:55am. I didn’t choose this time when ordering. They’ll be a great big loud noisy truck. The shame

I'm usually awake a 5am every day leave for work at 6am. I love drinking my coffee listening to the sounds outside change as everyone starts getting on with their day.

Milk delivery or postie?

Early deliveries are great! It'll be good to have it over and done with.

However you are being unreasonable getting a Hotpoint. Worse company about. Remember it was their fridge that started Grenfell and the faulty condenser dryers that caused fires.

To be fair the Grenfell Tower tragedy might not have been caused by the fridge being faulty. It's thought that it could have been other electrical cables or a discarded cigarette left on the window ledge. And putting cladding on the building was the real crime.

A few years ago we had a garden office installed and they said they'd arrive at 8. They arrived at 6.30!

We thought our neighbours would hate us too - the lorry with all the modular bits was huge. But they weren't noisy.

And delivering one thing isn't noisy.

Milk delivery or postie?

Ha not any of them, cancelled the milk delivery years ago it would come at 10am useless, post arrives about 11am according to my ring door bell. Nowadays it's mostly just a gentle hum of increased road traffic and the kids next door annoying their parents out of bed.

AlpacaMittens · 29/11/2024 09:05

It's fine. I wouldn't even notice.

Ohnonotrain · 29/11/2024 09:07

Perfect n my opinion. You’re not waiting the rest of the day.

Isobel201 · 29/11/2024 09:07

I don't get up at 7am these days, but its not a quiet period by any means. My neighbour gets up earlier than me and he's gone long before I hear anything. Sleeping at the back does make a difference though.

notquitetonedeaf · 29/11/2024 09:13

I remember (in London) having white goods delivered at some ungodly hour several years ago. The delivery guys said they to deliver at that time so as to be in an out of Tottenham before 7am - otherwise the crackheads would attack the van.

Skyrainlight · 29/11/2024 09:13

Just drop a text to apologise to the neighbours. I wouldn't be bothered if I was woken a little early on a one off that was out of your control. It's lovely that you are so considerate. Your neighbours are lucky to have you.

CandiedPrincess · 29/11/2024 09:15

First drop sounds like a dream for me, instead of having to wait in until 7pm at night. My neighbours are up leaving the house at 6am to go wild swimming slamming their car doors in the morning. 6.55 isn't really that early.

Ilovemyshed · 29/11/2024 09:16

We have heating oil delivered and it usually comes around 6.30 am, same for the neighbours.

cgwmtl · 29/11/2024 09:44

It's a weekday. It's not a problem. Most people will be starting to get up at that time and if they aren't it's a one off so not a big deal.

I think I'm generally a pretty good neighbour but it would never enter my head to do that, like pps have said the bin men here come before 7, people leave for work at all times of day and let barky dogs out.

Unless a large goods vehicle had to actually go onto someone else's drive for some reason and was going to be revving right under their open windows why would you need to let the neighbours know?

Cosyblankets · 29/11/2024 11:36

I would be pleased i didn't have to stay in.
It wouldn't occur to me to be bothered about the neighbours they'd be getting up for work anyway

I'm on great terms with my neighbours and if I was going to be the cause of them potentially being woken up early I would apologise. Why on earth not? If your attitude is that 'other things may wake them' so you don't ever need to apologise unless you are using their drive perhaps you aren't quite as good a neighbour as you think. A simple apology before or after the event to avoid ruffled feathers costs nothing.

It’s a home delivery, not bagpipe practice

About which OP is concerned.

MammaKel · 29/11/2024 13:43

I don't work and I'm up at 7am so I imagine most people are, it's fine!

Makingchocolatecake · 29/11/2024 22:22

I think most adults would be up anyway getting ready for work etc

TotallyTwisted · 29/11/2024 22:28

7am is early, I don't get up until 8am on a work day! A one off delivery wouldn't annoy me though. Well, it would, but not that much.
