Random man offering a rose?

I was walking through my local shopping centre today minding my own business when a random guy came and asked me to take a rose. I said no, and carried on walking but looked up and he was with two friends laughing, one of whom was filming the encounter on his phone using a stick thing.

Is this some kind of new viral challenge thing? I'm.not on social media and will be really upset if some random.man has posted me as part of a wider joke to get clicks!

Has anyone else had similar?

I’d be afraid he’d then ask for money? I’d certainly ignore. Probably unlike to be offered one because I have a face like an unhappy bag of spanners

It reminds me of those YouTube where men record themselves asking women for hugs and then giving a prize to the woman who hugs them. They never seem to ask men for hugs. Cue lots of comments calling the women selfish and nasty for not wanting to hug a strange man.

Some cults like the Moonies used to do this back in the 60s and 70s. No filming on phones back then though! It sounds like a prank of some sort.

It's a common scam in London where you'll accept the rose and then be expected to pay for it (and because you've engaged they can get pretty aggressive!) but this just sounds like some stupid video.

If it happens again and you have the confidence I'd storm over and ask complain/ask for details to start a legal claim as they'd filmed you without permission. Obviously wouldn't go anywhere but hopefully they'd delete and maybe think twice next time!

As they were filming the interaction, I would suspect he was a 'pick up artist', practicing his techniques. If you had taken the rose he might have moved on to negging...
