Why isn't this plane explosion being talked about?

ToBeOrNotToBee · 28/11/2024 15:28

On Monday a DHL plane 'crashed' in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Video footage shows an explosion as it comes into land.
Nothing in the news over here (UK) about it despite the death of one and 3 others seriously injured.
Previous incidents with DHL cargo planes in the last few months involving explosives being found in packages going onto planes (Leipzig) or after being unloaded (Birmingham) with the blame firmly being pointed at Russia.
This should be headline news for God's sake. We are definitely being kept in the dark.

Because it's thought to be a technical issue now.

SpanThatWorld · 28/11/2024 15:31

I saw it on the news and in a decent newspaper so it's hardly nothing.

Is there more to it? Maybe the media aren't speculating because there isn't enough evidence to do so sensibly.

I heard about this on a radio station news segment, so to say it wasn't spoken about isn't really correct.

It may have been a bigger story if it was closer to home.

Dotjones · 28/11/2024 15:32

Well it is being talked about e.g. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgr0v5rdnkzo

I don't know if it's being talked about on Mumsnet, I haven't looked, but if it isn't it's probably because it is a relatively minor crash in comparison to other aircraft disasters. A cargo plane has fewer casualties usually (unless there is a disaster over a built-up area) than a passenger plane.

The crash is being investigated but there's little benefit in armchair experts weighing in with unfounded opinions.

Please wait for the results of the official investigation.

Given that it is in the newspapers in what sense do you think we're being kept in the dark? Do you think government forces are speaking to the newsdesks at the publishers instructing to run it but not too prominently or something?

gannett · 28/11/2024 15:35

Obviously it is being talked about given the multiple mainstream outlets reporting on it that you yourself linked.

OneTC · 28/11/2024 15:35

Why isn't this thing you've linked us to via many major news outlets not... um sorry what was the question again?

Yes so did I!!

Op you need to calm down

Well yes.
I read about it on Monday on BBC very quickly on the way to work, then couldn't find it when I looked again that afternoon.
My work has 24 hour news playing, nothing was said about it on there either.

I've just read comments from ex-head of MI6 essentially suggesting we are already at war, and my mind went back to the crash. I had to Google the crash to find a BBC article which made no mention or link to the two other previous incidents despite the Reuters article on the same subject matter mentioning it.

Bit suspect is it not.

Why on earth should it be "headline news"?

It was in the news Tuesday (BBC online, Mail, Guardian).

It wasn't an atomic bomb.

Of course it was an atomic bomb. That's why it's 'not being talked about' by all the majority mainstream news outlets.

It's all just a massive conspiracy.

NewMum0305 · 28/11/2024 16:04

Complaining about being kept in the dark while linking to multiple news articles…

Links to multiple articles talking about this.

But suspect of what? Who do you think is seeking to supress the story and how?

If you get your news from TikTok with a bit of Heart FM thrown in you could be forgiven for not being up to date on World News

C152 · 28/11/2024 16:48

I'm sure the public are kept in the dark about loads of things, but this was headline news when it happened, OP. Along with the suspicion it was another act of Russian hybrid warfare, which has been going on for years and is ramping up.

FelixtheAardvark · 28/11/2024 17:19

Given it's been reported in 3 national newspapers (that I know of - may be others) and on the BBC I hardly think "we're being kept in the dark".

Bit suspect that the BBC are shit journalists? Not really!!
