Restraining order!

How hard/ easy is it to get a restraining order in place for harassment? My partner's friend who is quite frankly obsessed with my partner he has been a huge part of our lives for the past year, on the surface lovely man with some alcohol problems, we have helped him a hell of a lot to leave all that behind and start fresh when he's sober he is the nicest person. A few days ago he had a drink and has been nothing but abusive since. He has shown his true self, he moved 5 hours from his family and home time to start fresh in the area we live because of how close him and my partner was. They had business plans together and all sorts. He is currently on a huge attack mission against us especially my partner. A few days ago we blocked him on everything because of the threats and abuse he was throwing at us and constantly calling us on no caller ID. Last night somehow he has gotten my email address and is emailing my pictures of knives!! Making threats to hurt himself, we contacted the police and his family and is family have warned us he has a history of this type of behaviour. Now I'm terrified I have 2 young kids in the house and he's staying in a hotel 10 minutes down the road, he's due to move into a property on Friday a 5 minute walk from us. What can I do here.

It would be a non molestation order you would need (I think).

It would be pretty difficult to get without any charges being made though ime.

Report every email, call, threat, everything, and make sure the police have your numbers so they will know the situation should you dial 999. Keep screenshots of everything. Make sure your neighbours know the situation too.

Get cameras for your house, I found the pet cams to be the cheapest, around 25/30 each, and get a ring doorbell too.

What a shitty situation for you op. Hope it all dies down quickly.

Sorry you're going through this 😔 I'd be anxious too with small children in the house! What did the police say? Can you get a non-molestation order to keep him away from your house? Get a ring doorbell and make sure all doors have solid locks. Report every contact to police.
