Cost of installing a new fence

Hello everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has any idea how much it costs roughly to install a new fence. Appreciate that the price depends on the type of fence, length etc but just would like to have an idea in terms of per m or something like that, so that I can have a feel for what's reasonable. Our fence got totally destroyed by the strong winds we had in the last couple of years , so will need a new one (supply and fit), so wondering if anyone had to replace theirs recently.

Your experience would be much appreciated. If it makes any difference, I am in the South East.

Many thanks in advance.

As you say it varies, depending on materials used, quality and such.

You're best to ask on local groups plus have a look at the price of fencing you'd like, the posts whether wooden or concrete, post fix concrete and any other supplies you'd need, it would give you a rough idea.
Then there'd be labour costs to add.

You could also buy all the materials and ask for someone to quote to install for you.

I would say be weary of anyone wanting money up front, a good fencer/handyman will have an account with the company that they buy their materials from so won't necessarily want all the money upfront.

Recommendations/word of mouth....but again be aware that a work person's family can recommend but it doesn't mean the work is going to be the best quality.

If I'd had a new fence recently and someone knocked my door to enquire who'd done it I wouldn't mind, maybe that's another way for you to find a reputable person for the job.

If you budget £1m you will have change leftover.

The least relevant thing is that you're in the South East. Things like length of fence, type of material, etc. are critical details.

Fence panels, from £25 each
Fence posts, from £25 each
Gravel board, from £15 each
Postmix, £7/bag
Plus time to prepare the area, dig the holes, set the posts, and make good.

If you want a rough guess, around £100-200 for every 6' of fence. For a basic fence. You could easily spend 5x that much for bespoke high-end.

Depends what kind of fence.

If you have concrete posts already in place then it is simply slot in new panels.

If you need to get the old posts out and replace with new ones it can be hard work and will be a lot more expensive.
