Nasty disagreement over house purchase

We are negotiating a house purchase and found a house we both like. We have been going back and forth with the seller over the past few weeks.

Our last offer was £555k which was rejected but the seller has said they will accept £558k. My husband wants to offer £556k and not a penny more. I think we should offer the full amount but my husband has refused and is adamant he won't offer more than £556k.

Am I being thick, it's £2k more and we get the house? My husband isn't moving and has called me a clown for saying "it's only £2k more."

prices have been amended to avoid outting

It sounds like your agreeing with me but your opening statement doesn't. Also many supermarkets sell exclusive items that can't be bought from other places.

The only part of your original statement that I would agree with is that the sellers have the right to stand their ground and wait for someone to pay more than the asking price for this property. Most lines in a supermarket have a directly comparable line in another retailer, it would be easy for the supermarket to let you spend extra time and put you to inconvenience to obtain that product from another source.

My point is that homes are so difficult to compare to supermarket goods, it is easy for even experienced estate agents to judge the market wrong for one reason or another. I the customer might genuinely feel one property is over priced whilst another apparently similar one is undervalued and you as a buyer hold the opposing opinion.

Did you get the house @Alittlebyte ?!

My daughter just had her Dads valued by ea for probate. The range she was given by 3 estate agents was £105k to £125k. Thats a hell of a range for a house when its only rhat sort of price. So given that, it demonstrates the ea value doesnt really mean anything. Its what the vendor can get and if youre the only one offering and youre in a position to move then the vendor needs to be aware as it might alter their view. Over a few years you will make the 2k back tho and then some
