To wonder how new parents decorate for Christmas?

I'm super excited for my baby's first Christmas.

But where on earth do I put the tree? We live in a tiny end of terrace house with no spare space. Where tree normally goes in half-bay window is now piled with playmat, bouncer, toys etc.

How do people find room?

YABU woman up and tidy up
YANBU don't bother with decorations

Bit of an odd voting choice so I haven't bothered.

Do you have a sideboard or something that you could stand a smaller tree on?

Nikitaspearlearring · 25/11/2024 10:50

Could you get a small tree (artificial?) and shove it on a little side-table in the corner? In which case it would be above floor height. Behind the sofa if your sofa is up against a corner.

pointlesspoints · 25/11/2024 10:56

We just moved the stuff and put the tree where it always went tbh. It's not that deep. You can reshuffle the room.

Seeline · 25/11/2024 11:00

Really depends on whether the baby is mobile yet?

My Ds was only 3 weeks old for his first Christmas so we just put an artificial tree where is usually went.
By the next Christmas he was walking so it didn't really matter where it went - it was accessible wherever we put it!!

Get a mini tree and put it on a surface/table.

Less is more!

This. You’ll figure it out if you want to, but if you don’t want to, that’s fine too.

tealandteal · 25/11/2024 11:06

First year just put it where it normally went. Second year we put the tree upstairs in the hall! They love the lights etc when they are little.

Yes, this.

We always have to move furniture around every Christmas anyway to fit in the tree properly and re-arrange the room. I did this pre kids, when they were tiny, and when they’re not so tiny. No different.

Floralnomad · 25/11/2024 11:08

I also haven’t voted as it’s a bit of a weird choice but yes I’d find somewhere for some kind of tree .

DreamingDaisies · 25/11/2024 11:16

If the baby isn't moving, put it anywhere and everywhere because for the next 5 years you will be constantly monitoring children and trees and saying Leave That Alone! Enjoy the last easy one!

When our baby became mobile we pulled the sofa out a little and put the tree on a stool behind the sofa.

Elphamouche · 25/11/2024 11:17

Haven’t voted. We have an 8mo. Tree is going where it normally is. Bouncer and playmat going away as FC is brining new bits. Also buying a playpen 😂

TwinklyNight · 25/11/2024 11:31

My first baby, no tree, just did a stocking, a a couple of presents. I lived in a tiny bedsitting room with tiny kitchen at that time.
Tabletop trees are great, I have somehow acquired 5.🙃
Our kids are grown up now and they host us, they always chop a fresh tree down, it's best of both worlds.

SJM1988 · 25/11/2024 11:33

Move the stuff and put the tree up. We also have a bay window we put the tree in. The other 11 months of the years its toy storage....December the toys get vetoed to another space for the tree

Singleandproud · 25/11/2024 11:36

I've not got a baby but bought a recliner that now lives where the tree did.

We have an artificial pop-up tree now takes 30 seconds to put up and add our 'special' decorations too. Other decorations can go on the ceiling for a 90s feel or on sideboards, hallways etc

Hush your mouth! At Christmas more is more!! Bring on the grotto. I don't 'do' ornaments & strategically placed magazines etc but at Christmas, bring it on!!!

@Gatecrashermum How much do you WANT a proper sized tree? If you really want one one then you'll just have to move the baby stuff elsewhere which will be kess convenient, but worth it if you want the tree. Or put a smaller one elsewhere if you're not that bothered or one that's made of lights that goes on a wall.

id move the baby stuff & enjoy the tree myself. Some lovely first Christmas photos! (For ME, I don't do insta etc) and baby able to lay near the tree enjoying the lights.

We did mini tree for baby/ toddler first Christmas!! He just pulled evening off so it wasn’t worth the hassle. Did a small tree high up

TeenLifeMum · 25/11/2024 12:05

I used to put the tree in a corner and coffee table in front to stop a crawling baby pulling it over. Decorations everywhere though because it makes me happy.
