Hello,

I've never posted on Mumsnet before but read the threads and are surprised how much info responders know!

I have a wierd one .....

Last Christmas I bought my daughter an Oodie.

When putting it on she felt something scratch her. I looked and removed somethings that looked like either a long thin human finger nail or a bone of some kind covered in what I can only assume was dried blood.

The blood is over the items, especially at the thicker end but does not show up in my photos.

It was as sharp as a needle & pierced my finger when taking it out.

Obviously wanting to know what it was & who's what blood was on it I contacted Oodie.

Their response from the start has been very polite, apologising and offering to send my daughter another Oodie.

I have a number of times said I want to know what the item/ blood was that pierced my skin. The get the same email, apology & offering a free Oodie.

On pushing to know more I have been told it was a manufacturing error and again offered a free Oodie for my daughter.

I have asked again if they can shed light on what it may. I really want to know what was really nestled in an Oddie to fit a 7 yr old....... no response now.

I'm wondering where they are made and who by? If another country would they use bones as needles or has someone lost a finger nail .....

I get it's been nearly a year, but the thought can't leave me ....... it's so random .....

Anyone have any ideas? My daughter loves her Oodie but it repulses me every time I see it!

If I need an AIBU it would be:

Am I unreasonable to want to know what object with blood on was in my daughters Oodie &
pierced my finger?

Yes - I'd want to know
or
No - I would not care

Like these https://www.etsy.com/uk/market/bone_bodkin

maybe threading a cord or elastic through

Looks like an animal bone or claw.

Tbh I'd have taken it to the GP and asked them. Not that I expect they'd be able to identify it (although they might!) but you might have wanted a tentacle booster or something.

You could ask at the vet and see if they know. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not sure what you’re expecting the GP to do, the bone looks a bit past CPR or antibiotics.

Thanks Ohnobackagain,

I did wonder if it was used as a needle
as really really sharp point.

But it does not look like the ones on Etsy, no hole
on top and not clean.

If it is used in making an Oodie why can't they just tell me that. They having once said it's not their object ...... so it could be used in the process of making them?

I'd be annoyed at their cageyness about what it is - indicates their manufacturing might be done somewhere that is not regulated!!

I bought an oversized hoodie from a local person who makes them for £20!

ThinWomansBrain · 23/11/2024 13:27

If they weren't confident they could trace back to manufacture, or find anything useful, better that they didn't attempt to say they'd investigate.
They offered you a free replacement without any quibbling, you or child were not injured, so no compensation doesn't seem unreasonable.

It was an unfortunate accidental incident a year ago FFS; other that a decision that you don't like/trust the company and won't make any further purchases from them - why give it headspace?

BobbyBiscuits · 23/11/2024 13:31

It's definitely an animal bone. Rat, pigeon. I think it's too big for mouse. It mostly got mangled up in the process or distribution? Obviously it's horrible. I would ask for a refund and an investigation.

I've had all of these thoughts (apart from the rats getting caught in the machinery .... thank you 🤮)

Which is why I can't seem to forget about ...... from toothpick, bone after food was sucked off or dead animal ....... it's a gross mystery

Am I right in thinking Oodie should want to find out & tell me?

There is no way they could find out what it is.

Your best bet is to contact a lab in the UK and see if the bone (?) can be identified.

Given there was dried blood on it, you should have gone to A&E with the thing to get a tetanus shot and to have your blood tested for any infection.

And fhs, oodies are not lovingly made by hand using hand hewed bones or wood or the claws of bats, or whatever.

They are made in factories full of machines manned by ten year old Uighur children.
