Tell me about your encounters.

I'm sat in the computer area in the library and a man has something playing on his PC put loud but low so all I can hear is muffled sounds. Why don't people carry earphones?

I go in my local library sometimes to do the communal jigsaw. The jigsaw table is adjacent to the library computers and I've lost count of the number of things I've had to listen to because of the very thing you describe: no head phones and totally oblivious to the fact other people are having to listen in. The worse experience was someone looking up a health issue and having to listen to it being explained in graphic detail.

Because they're thoughtless dickheads. Usually. Or really hard up and can't afford any. It's almost always the first option.

unsync · 23/11/2024 12:26

NAMALT 😁 Just thought I'd get that in, but yes, usually a bloke. It's because they are important and their needs and wants take precedence over yours, didn't you know?

VeronicaBeccabunga · 23/11/2024 12:31

The person who parked a whopping great Range Rover thing across our drive.
They were, apparently, 'just' picking up from next door. There was plenty of other parking but they obvs decided to get as close as they could to the neighbours' house, when we needed to go out.
The drivers of this type of car do seem to embody the stereotype, don't they?

Maybe he can’t afford headphones…

ilovesooty · 23/11/2024 12:52

The man at my gym yesterday who thought he had the right to park his 4x4 straddling four parking spaces. Apparently I was rude for interrupting him on his phone to point out that his parking was unacceptable. 🙄

In which case he shouldn't be listening to stuff whilst in public places.

I’m going to guess that as he was using the library computer then he can’t afford his own computer either. Maybe it was his only option and last resort.

MamaAndTheSofa · 23/11/2024 13:12

If he couldn't afford headphones but still had some self-awareness he'd have been looking around to make sure he wasn't disturbing anyone, apologising for the noise etc. Also, many libraries have headphones you can borrow (obviously not all, though).

Ezlo · 24/11/2024 11:16

You can get headphones for a few quid at Poundland. He was watching a craft video on YouTube. I think he could've put subtitles on. My scowls weren't working on him.

The amount of adults I've encountered who throw a strop because I told them I don't need their help. (I'm visually impaired and need a guide runner) Including the one who got her sister to have a go at me

Fair enough, I've been in that situation of living on the breadline, but could he not use subtitles?

Disabled bays

Mums dropping kids off blocking EVERYTHING

My cats not realising that I have to pee and they know the rule of 'cats can't be moved once settled'...

Mums dropping kids off blocking EVERYTHING

I swear that the parents who drop off their kids at the school down the road from my house only have one brain cell between them. Their parking is terrible.

FlyingUnicornWings · 24/11/2024 12:10

People parking on the yellow lines outside school, leaving no room for parents with blue badges who need to park close. Selfish. Gives me rage.

Seymour5 · 24/11/2024 12:22

The young man who parked his motorbike in the last vacant disabled bay outside Aldi. I opened the car window, showed him my blue badge, and told him the space was for cars displaying disabled badges. He said something I couldn’t understand, left his bike and went into the shop.
