To think I should get a refund?

I ordered a hairdryer a while ago and then the fuse kept cutting out. I returned in warranty and they claimed nothing was wrong with it and were returning it.

I came home yesterday to a note that a parcel was left with my neighbours, I went round this morning and the neighbour said they’d left it on my doorstep and whether they did or not I’m not sure but it’s no longer there.

So I’m out £100 and no flipping hairdryer either.

I'd go back to the people you bought the hairdryer from, tell them what's happened, and tell them to take it up with the delivery company, because unless you said it should be left with a neighbour, it should have been delivered to YOU at the address you gave, and NOT to the next door neighbour, who could just as easily deny ever seeing it, even if there is photographic proof.

MissMoneyFairy · 22/11/2024 19:14

Did you request that it can be left with your neighbour, is there any proof of delivery, photo, signature. Either its still with your ndn or it's been nicked but they shouldn't leave it with ndn unless you specified that as a safe place so they'd have to send another one.

I didn’t give any instructions such as leave with neighbour or safe place. They just said they were sending it back and sent a tracking link.

And also me and those neighbours don’t particularly get on. Nothing crazy but we KNOW we don’t like each other so why in the world they took in my parcel I have no idea.

Does the tracking link include any kind of “proof” of delivery?

SnakesAndArrows · 22/11/2024 19:22

And did you pay on a credit card?

It says delivered to neighbour with a photo of their front door open, parcel on the floor and their child reaching down to grab it.

No, debit.

So if you don't get on with this neighbour, what evidence do they have that they put it on your doorstep and haven't stolen it? Why did they accept it in the first place, if they were just going to dump it on your doorstep, the courier could have done that. I would DEFINITELY be going back to the Seller, and telling them that as you didn't at any time, agree for your item to be left with a neighbour, that it's their responsibility to return it to you, and it's now up to them to refund you. or replace it, and take up the loss with their delivery company.

Well then you tell the seller that this is not your house and the next door neighbour denies having the parcel. The seller is responsible for arranging delivery to you, not to your neighbour, and must take this up with the courier.

stargazerlil · 22/11/2024 21:09

Why on earth would your neighbour leave it on your doorstep, what’s the point then of them taking it in for you in the first place, might as well have said to the delivery person they wouldn’t take it. All sounds a bit odd to me.

Because they are just dicks.

They regularly allowed their work men to block my driveway and then a car parked across his drive and he came round banging on my door demanding I move it. It literally had nothing to do with me.

So again I don’t know why they wouldn’t just say “no thanks” to taking in my delivery to then just go dump it on doorstep.

I doubt the hairdryer people will refund if they have delivery confirmation, only thing you can do is threaten neighbour with small claims court, but not really worth it to go there, what bastards, I’d be really pissed off with them. Good luck

They don’t have delivery confirmation. In fact they have proof their courier didn’t deliver it to the OP’s address. Therefore the hairdryer supplier needs to reimburse OP, and then take it up with their courier.

OP’s small claim is against the supplier.

They have probably stolen your hairdryer - either out of malice or because they want your hairdryer - or they have binned it.

Maybe, shame I’ll never have proof of what they did with it.

They didn’t deliver it to ky address. What if I lived in London and my parcel got delivered in Leeds by someone who signed for it. That’s ok because it was still delivered?

I never gave authorisation to deliver to anywhere but my house.

Only update I have is that they’ve emailed me back after for my neighbours address.

OP posts:
Alphaalga · 24/11/2024 02:03

You haven't received the delivery, so you're owed a refund. If your neighbour's lying it's still the courier/seller's bad.

Take it up with your bank if the seller refuses to refund.

Letmegohome · 24/11/2024 02:04

If you've ever had a safe place agreement with the courier who delivered that is their get out of jail card when parcels go missing because you previously believed it to be somewhere safe and secure to leave it.
If not push the retailer you bought from them, the chose to use that company so the retailer should take it up with the delivery company . Keep pushing, why should you lose out Good luck ( which retailer? )

Doingtheboxerbeat · 24/11/2024 02:10

I agree it's not your job to chase it up with your neighbours, why should you? That's the couriers job . And you shouldn't have to chase the couriers - that's the retailers job. Your job is to report it to the seller and let everyone else do the chasing

Don't talk nonsense. The company is legally obliged to deliver directly to her. If their delivery driver has left it elsewhere the company still gas a legal obligation to the OP to either deliver the goods to her or refund her. The fact they left it somewhere else is neither here nor there. Legal responsibility remains with the company. It is not incumbent on the OP to try to get it from the neighbours or to sue them.

DreamTheMoors · 24/11/2024 02:43

I had a surprise yesterday.
My Amazon drivers are notoriously lazy.
All I ask is that they ring the doorbell which is right at their eye level when they bend over to put the package down — and they never manage to do it.
So the doorbell rang for once and I went to retrieve my package — and the nicest young man was standing there and told me that since it was dark outside he didn’t want anything to happen to my delivery.
I couldn’t believe it.
It was a big bottle of Excedrin lol.
